A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    VM Carb Separation

No, it's the one that stops the throttle linkage rod form moving from side to side. Sits in between 1 and 2, bolted on the side of 2.

    VM Carb Separation

There's also a little bracket held in by a single bolt on the left hand side (as you sit on the bike).

New rider. GS550E Owner - UK

Well some things can't be helped I suppose.....:D While your new bike is not in standard fettle it does look well looked after in the photo and has had some money spent on it by the looks of things. Enjoy it, 550s are great bikes.

    Rubber Boots Airbox to Carbs

The GS750 8 valve hoses, any year, fit (so 76 to 79). The hoses for the 16 valve engines (80 onwards) don't fit. Should be available at your local Suzuki dealership or any of the main online guys.

    Rubber Boots Airbox to Carbs

Suzuki never sold the airbox to carb hoses for a GS1000 (VM carb model) separately to the airbox. However, GS750 hoses are almost identical, fit and work fine.

Yes, another pod vs stock airbox question.Th

You can make your 550 run as sweet as a nut with pods. If you've never tuned one in before just be patient and listen to your engine / learn from spark plug colour. You've made a good start with the Dynojet kit so you're on your way already.

    Leaking gas from air box

One or more of your floats is stuck or the valves aren't seating due to grunge build up. Sounds like you have some blocked jets as well - time to strip and clean your carbs.

Will this fit my GS 550 1979?

If you have the Aishin / Asco type master cylinder it should. Cheap price as well.

Type of Oil 10w 40w UK

Castrol GTX for diesels is my recommendation. Price is often all over the place but look around and you'll be able to get a can for under ?20.

    removing installing carbs | GS1000 '78

Undo the airbox, then remove the airbox to carb hose clips and pull the airbox back as far as it will go. Undo the carb to head hose clips and pull the carbs backwards. If all the hoses are soft the carbs will pull out pretty easily.

    carb leaking at t-piece | GS1000 '78

The o rings on those tee pieces can shrink when the carbs are stripped and they're left in the air. The good news is that they usually swell up quickly when exposed to petrol again. Loads leak like yours on first assembly but the following day are fine. Wait and see what happens before pulling...

Are the airbox to carb hoses soft or have they hardened with age?

    Carb leak

If they're taking hours to overflow and not minutes there's nothing to worry about.
