A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

1 Cylinder not always firing at idle

I pulled the plug and started the bike with the plug still connected to the lead. I can see the spark clearly.

1 Cylinder not always firing at idle

1982 GS1100G, all original parts. Newly rebuilt carbs last year with all new jets and gaskets etc. Bike ran great after rebuild. Stored the bike over the winter with Seafoam mixed with gas in the tank. Started right up last week but Cylinder # 2 (2nd from the left if you are sitting on the...

    Mysterious Oil Leak

Ah. No. I take the oil level screw out and fill from the fill hole on top and watch the oil come out of the hole where the oil level screw goes.

    Mysterious Oil Leak

I have a bottle of SAE 90 that has a tapered spout. I put it in right to the top. I just did a complete change of secondary gear oil. I also pulled the breather hose out of the starter cavity and blew through it. I couldn't tell if it was blocked but it definitely isn't now. Just drove a few...

    Mysterious Oil Leak

Disregard my last post. I did find the breather and hose. They are connected properly. There is no oil in the starter cavity. It only comes out of the hole in the first pic I posted earlier today.

    Mysterious Oil Leak

I can't tell from the schematic where that hose and breather are supposed to be.

    Mysterious Oil Leak

You may be on to something. Here's a pic I just took. To the best of my knowledge, there was never any hose coming out of this and the "hole" isn't a hole. It's solid.

    Mysterious Oil Leak

There is no hose or pipe running into the starter cavity.

    Mysterious Oil Leak

Upon further investigation, I am now 99% sure it is Secondary Gear Oil. When I top off the gear oil, I get a few drops out of the hole even without the bike moving. It does smell a little like cat pee.

    Mysterious Oil Leak

I didn't smell it and the bike is now on the lift with various pieces removed but the oil was much cleaner than the motor oil so I assume it was gear oil. I also topped of the secondary oil before I rode it the last time and checked the level today and it was down a little.

    Mysterious Oil Leak

I had recently had the stator cover off so I checked that first. The believe that the oil that is dripping is gear oil. Not motor oil.

    Mysterious Oil Leak

I have the cover to the starter off and the cavity is bone dry. I guess I should check more closely.

    Mysterious Oil Leak

1982 GS1100G - Started finding several drops of oil when I parked the bike after riding. Also could smell oil burning off of the exhaust pipe when idling at a red light. Found the source.. There is a machined hole in a nook on the side of the engine (see red arrow in pic) Oil only comes out when...

    Speedo is way out.

Just got my restored '82 GS110G on the road last fall. (100% stock including tire sizes) I could tell the speedo was off just by feel. Finally had the chance to use one of my townships radar speed detectors. It is way off. Shows 40 when I'm doing 34. and shows 60 when I'm doing 50. My biggest...

    Front Brake Problem

Thanks for all of the effort and advice. I have 2 or 3 things to try when the weather allows.

    Front Brake Problem

I have 3 complete sets of OEM calipers. All rebuilt with new seals etc. 2 by me. 1 by a bike shop. They all do the same thing.

    Front Brake Problem

I have actually done that. I have even taken the T connection out of the equation. No luck.

    Front Brake Problem

I did think of that. They are the same on both sides. The problem seems to be that the left simply doesn't have the same amount of "squeeze" as the right.

    Front Brake Problem

I have 2 sets of OEM pads that have tons of meat on them and 1 new set I bought online. All do the same thing.

    Front Brake Problem

Thanks for the advice. I have done everything everyone has mentioned. I have 3 complete sets of rebuilt and NOS OEM parts from the master cylinder to the calipers. They are all doing the same thing. I have even tested the pistons with measured air pressure to be sure they move with the same...
