A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

I have made a final decision (which will please many in here because it was the majority consensus to do this) After reading all the replies, burning my eyes out on cafe racer sights, researching everything there is to know about the GS range of engines from the 450 all the way up to the 850...

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

None taken, but, read what I wrote. Everything you pointed out is what I said I would not use. I'll re-post it again here, and I'll highlight the points we're both making: "This is what I envision the bike will look like, but with a thicker seat that won't fire up my sciatica after three miles...

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

When I used the word "platform", I was referring to a small, powerful, inline 4 engine over anybody's parallel twin. Why you ask, purely the sound and nothing else. I've seen countless video's (and heard in person) parallel twin caf? racers. (mostly the Yamaha XS650 that folks love to build)...

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

This is what I envision the bike will look like, but with a thicker seat that won't fire up my sciatica after three miles of riding the way this "tissue-thin" seat would, and regular street tires, not the "bobber style" tires that this bike has.

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

My bad, and I stand corrected, you are correct sir, looks like my options are increasing..... Do you now if that engine will bolt into a 1980 GS550 frame without having to fabricate completely new mounting tabs?

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

Yes but the GS650 is a shaft drive engine and the cost & work to convert it to chain drive would be insane. I don't mind shaft driven bikes, but this project has to be conventional chain.

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

I just may have to as a big bore kit for the 550 doesnt seem to exist. Plus, I have a buddy that's a Suzuki legend in the area where I live and all this guy does is build Suzuki powerhouse engines. If anybody would know how to do it, do it well, and get the most out of the engine, it would be...

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

Yes, my daily ride for over 20 years has been a 79 GS750E slightly modified and she goes like lightning. It would really help if I could find a definitive guide or chart that gives the specific weights of the various air cooled GS engines but I cant find one anywhere. I wouldn't mind going...

Potential Big Bore Performance kit for GS550

Hi Gang, The bug has bitten me to start another project, so I'm finally going to build the caf? racer I've always wanted to build and the prefect platform (for me) is the GS550. I considered the GS400 & GS450 parallel twins for their light weight, but they don't give/have that inline-four...

How fast is is your old GS?

This little girl right here was purchased 25 years ago, and completely rebuilt by yours truly without any engine modifications what-so-ever, and she's topped out at 125 mph more times than I can count. An old naked bike like this at that speed makes you feel like your going damn near 200 mph...

Can anybody in here identify this seat/cowling set-up?

Hi Gang, So after looking at hundreds of street fighters, cafe racers, resto-mods, and muscle bikes of all kinds my vision for my next build is coming into focus. I found a picture of a bike that has the seat/cowling setup that I want, but I have no idea what bike these parts came off of...

New, Aftermarket Wiring Looms for Frankenstein Project

New, Aftermarket Wiring Looms for Frankenstein Project

Nessism, Understood..... But I'm not looking for a special, customized wiring loom specifically made for what I'm doing. (maybe I misspoke) What I'm looking for is a more modern wiring loom capable of managing the electrical duties of a late 80's, early 90's GSXR1100 engine while also...

New, Aftermarket Wiring Looms for Frankenstein Project

Hi Gang, So I'm getting ready to cobble a bike together from multiple parts (all Suzuki parts) and my main question is this.... Where can I buy an aftermarket (modern) wiring loom that will compliment (fit) an early 80's GS frame, mated up with an early 90's GSXR1100 engine. I've been told to...
