A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    GS550T Refresh

5 years is plenty long enough for critters to get into and build a home in your airbox... just in case you haven't looked. Had a whole mouse colony move in one year, think they turned the carb throats into a latrine, good times.

    First road bike - 1982 GS550L

I may have let my past frustrations run away with me on those air leaks... and I'm not discounting the value of needle shimming... I just like to get to a nice factory baseline first if possible. via a thorough, meticulous air/fuel workdown. On the bright side, getting there is pretty...

    First road bike - 1982 GS550L

Lucky for you stator covers are easy to come by… Bars are highly personal, I get that. I’m tall and lanky so the elkhors never suited me… anyway as promised I dug up a couple of pictures of the ex’s old bike with the dirt bike style bars, the cross bar was odd to me at first but coming from a...

    New Vietnamese seat with pictures

I can't speak for anyone else but, I have about 300 miles on mine so far and I prefer it to the older soft seat... defiantly not styrofoam, just harder upholstery foam than the plush stock stuff.

    First road bike - 1982 GS550L

b Somebody babied that thing... look at those pipes! Nice score, I have a pair of 550e's and an ex had a 550L that she put MX bars on, surprisingly, they were actually perfect for both of us on that bike. Have a picture of it somewhere... and will try to dig it up.

    Valve cover gasket source recommendation

Made my own for a dozen bikes from high temperature silicone (because I have rolls of the stuff and... I prefer never having to scrape a gasket twice) it is much thinner than a Suzuki gasket and have never had a tach cable issue. Note: these have all been 8 valve bikes... You can purchase one...

what did you wrench on today??

My old fuse box was leaking some serious juice, outputs (from 10.4v to 11.8 measured on the output side, lowest at ignition fuse) and went to rebuild it to discover brittle fuse holders and a pile of solder & grime that shouldn't have been there... could have cobbled it back together but, my...

    New Vietnamese seat with pictures

I've had 550's with other bars and I'd have to agree with you... this is my first experience with stock bars that I remember and they take a little getting used to... The harder seat, after a couple of commutes & some miles I'm preferring it.

    New Vietnamese seat with pictures

Thanks, it's been garage kept for it's whole life so she's not to bad... was also wary but, with the lack of alternatives I decided to roll the dice. Figured there were others in the same boat. With tax $261.08 all in door to door… $75 of that was shipping the seller was...

    New Vietnamese seat with pictures

Doing a refresh on a 1980 GS550e and the original seat pan was bent in a way that made closure awkward/ill-fitting etc… and also needing a seat for a 550 project, was in the market for a nice original seat and to move old seat to project bike. Ebay and local searches were coming up...

41mm or 39mm front end choice...

Interesting... Does that cause a change in rake? Have this mod on my radar and have acquired one of the required discs, hunt on for disc 2. The only beef I have with my current 850 is stopping power not quite on par with modern stuff... Just rode my friends big new vstrom and was amazed at the...

41mm or 39mm front end choice...

Thanks, guess once I've committed I can change the springs if I find them to stiff, soft or whatnot... I just checked and stand corrected, thanks Noted Right on & thanks everyone... then the GK front end will be the choice

41mm or 39mm front end choice...

Thanks for the reply. Have a set of headlight mounts, an 8" light and 2 nice GK front fenders. Wiring is no prob... In general fitment is not the issue; I'm wondering if the 41mm front end will be to harsh as the springs are meant to carry that large front fairing... I'd prefer the heavier...

41mm or 39mm front end choice...

After years of gathering parts, I'm about to start reassembling a GS850g to replace my daily 850g. I have 2 front ends a 41mm from a GS1100GK and a 39mm from a 850G and wondering which one would make for a better ride? Don't mind the extra weight as I like a heavy/smooth ride... I ride with a...

buried the needle on my old 550 all day, every day...Just couldn't bother the thing no matter how mean I was to her... my current 550 I've been more gentle with, she wants more but, I'm more timid on wire wheels... (sorry girl, it's not you, it's me) My daily is and 850G, it see's 5k on the...
