DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Bad Gas!

It was water... The rep from the state tested it. Have not been back to that station since.

    Hot Start Issue, '97 ZX-11

Like after being off for 5min or so (getting gas, etc.). Has happened to me turning it off in traffic too, waiting on a light (don't do that anymore...). Wondering what might cause that. Cracking the throttle a bit is what I'd expect to work, and it does sometimes. Others - nothing, until after...

E10, Phase Separation, and Water in the Fuel Tank

Yeah, it doesn't seem reasonable to me that I've been riding around with some significant amount of water and didn't know it until I hit it with the E10. But I don't know that the guy that tested the station and my sample totally bought that it didn't come from my tank. Anyway... I usually...

E10, Phase Separation, and Water in the Fuel Tank

Well I've learned something. But still have some questions. I recently posted about getting "bad gas" in the "Other Questions" section (since I've got one of those "other bikes"), and the state agency overseeing that tested it for me today. The lower of 2 layers in the sample jar I had was...

    C/L Nice 1992 FJ1200 $2K Bay Area

There was a really nice ('86 model, I think), that I was looking at before I bought my current. It was out of state, in a remotish part of the Colorado mountains. Guy got a buyer for it before I decided one way or another.

    Bad Gas!

I'm wondering what diesel looks like. That mixture I showed settles down into two distinct, clear layers, but goes cloudy again very easily if agitated. Like I said, the bottom one does NOT look like water. I stopped by the station a little while ago to let them know what they'd sold me, and...

    Bad Gas!

Got a hold of some bad gas a couple days ago... I meant to get gas at my normal 100% place on the way home from work, but just forgot, so I stopped at the nearest alternative and put the E10 91 octane stuff in (it's for a ZX-11, that I've had for nearly 3 years now). I almost always get 100%...

Any LEOs or DMV people here

Yeah, file that form Chuck, you know, with the date and all that he took it. That might cover it for you. I left a PikePass thing on one time (that the buyer used), but got out of that somehow. Can't remember the details.

Any LEOs or DMV people here

Idk the form number, but yes, that. Costs $10 to file that at the tag agency. That might be enough, don't know. And right, the plates don't go with the vehicles any more, so you should have kept it. I'm meddling a little now, but has he ever helped you? All your examples are the other way...

    Suspension and throttle questions

Do you mean it's good? I have mixed opinion on the couple of cars I've driven with it (older Lexus, like over 20, and older Acura). Don't like it on the Lexus. There's something "different" about it. That car is so quiet there's not enough feedback anyway, so... Can't say I've noticed it on...

    Questions for the HVAC guys

A study in why we work on our own bikes, cars, boats, etc., etc..., when able. I'd love to have a good 4-wheel (cage) mechanic. Don't know one, though I'm sure they're out there. Or maybe I'm not sure anymore (lol). Sounds like you know a whole lot about it already. I've been in the...

    Chain Noise

Thanks for the reply, Chuck. It's more or less continuous (but pretty mild as I listen to it this morning), if I turn the rear wheel at a rate of say 6" a second or so. Bop-ba-dop, bump-du-dump, bop. Like that (lol). Rear wheel seems pretty solid. I noticed it a week or few ago and felt...

    Chain Noise

Prob not something specific to my "other" bike, but. '97 ZX-11 - I've recently noticed a light "bumping" sound that seems associated with the chain when I roll the bike slowly or turn the rear wheel slowly on the center stand. It's definitely something new. Tension seems fine, adjustment...

    High Headwinds Stutter

For what it's worth, I have a vague memory of something like that, on one of the GSs. Can't remember which though, and maybe not quite to that extent. Maybe the 850 ('83)?? Had some exposure to a 700E with pods and a V&H 4-1 for a while too (which someone set up very nicely); can't say it...

    Wheelie Recovery Technique?

That's been part of the fun to me, the challenge of constantly making sure you've got an "out", etc. Maybe that part helps take your mind off your troubles (you've got to use it to stay alive for a little while, instead). When I had the 1100G, I found myself coming home from work a few times...

    Wheelie Recovery Technique?

The front brake thing's wandering a bit, but I'll share one experience I had on my 850. Actually I had three close calls in a fairly short amount of time. Don't know if I wasn't living right or what, but anyway... For one of them, I was first in line at a signalized intersection. At the...

    Wheelie Recovery Technique?

This bike's got the best front brakes of any I remember. I really only feel like I'm adding the rear in too because you're "supposed to". If I'm "thinking" about what I'm going to use, it's about the fronts (maybe because those controls are more in view, and operated by the hand). I like to...

    Wheelie Recovery Technique?

Got a little unexpected rise out of it the other day, and tried the shifting thing, but don't think I did it quite quick enough. Still felt it plop back down, but not too bad. If I knew it was coming and/or did it more, it might be more natural. Mighta been the cold air, or rolling on the...

Changing your own tires, is it worth it anymore?

I discovered the heavy-walled socket thing when doing the crank bolt on my Acura a couple of years ago. Regular socket and impact - no go. Heavy one zipped it right out. I had a brief go at my ZX-11 front if I remember, but wound up taking that and the rear when it came due, to the Kawasaki...

    Condensation in the Oil

I'll try that (feeling hose temp) next time I'm warming a bit before I go. I took the oil cap off tonight to see if it'd dry out a bit in there (prob won't really). And I was thinking this morning, I could put some cardboard in front of (part of) the radiator like the truck drivers do in the...
