A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Is it time for a head gasket?

I didn't use the rectangular o-ring and no leaks after I had already purchased that $25 rubber band. It's obsolete with the new style all metal gasket. Just got home from a 150 mile ride. Couldn't resist with 80 degrees outside for the 5th day in a row in South Georgia. Tough winter....

Is it time for a head gasket?

I did a complete engine rebuild on a 78 GS1000 about 2 years ago and was a bit confused when the head gasket arrived. The new style metal gasket does not require any additional o-rings. Not even the rectangular one that would normally seal where the timing chain passes. With the same gasket...

    Will VM26 Carbs from a 750 and 1000 Interchange?

Nessism, as mentioned the main fuel jet, jet needle, and needle jet are different but one other bit is the main air jet. The 750 air jet is .7 mm and the 1000 air jet is 1.5mm. I haven't substitute myself but everything else appears identical. Best of luck Sir.

Carb 1# is too rich dispite resetting the fuel/air screws

Good to hear the progress. Little tweaking and you're there.

Carb 1# is too rich dispite resetting the fuel/air screws

The attached illustrates how the pilot circuit affects total fuel through the entire range.

Carb 1# is too rich dispite resetting the fuel/air screws

I would tighten the fuel screw ( bottom one ) 1/4 turn and adjust air screw to highest idle. As mentioned, that carb might have an enlarged pilot fuel hole. VM carbs use the pilot circuit through the entire range and from my experience, are more critical than on CV carbs. Best of luck!!

3M sealing tape on spoked wheels

What about that flex seal spray on tv? The stuff used to seal a screen door in the bottom of a boat.... I will likely stick with tubes or get some mag wheels if I want to go tubeless. Too much at stake. I was riding a couple of years ago and picked up a nail. Tire was flat in seconds and no...

"Pure gas". How long does it stay good?

Hi Keith, I had the same problem with the Z1 fittings but had some o-rings from Robert's kit and all is well. Also, the original fittings usually seal if soaked in fuel for an hour as they dry out during the rebuild. Now, back on subject, I live in a hot humid climate and ethanol free fuel with...

Blows main fuse when I turn on the key?

We are going to completely check it out next week and will check the horn as well. This area gets really crazy this time of year due to the Georgia - Florida game so will have to wait till next week.

Blows main fuse when I turn on the key?

The R/R is a regulator and rectifier. The owner installed a new battery and fuses and the problem seems to fixed. We are doing about a 60 mile round trip ride next week to lunch spot in the next county and if it pops again, I will have some supplies on hand. LOTO, I would check battery...

Blows main fuse when I turn on the key?

5 amps is the equivalent of a headlamp on all the time even when switched to the off position. 60 watts.....

Blows main fuse when I turn on the key?

A constant 3 or 5 amp draw with the ignition off. Really? That is a little more than an acceptable parasitic drain. Bike is fixed and it wasn't the R/R or stator.

Blows main fuse when I turn on the key?

Attached portion of wire diagram, note R/R item 5 not part of ignition circuit but powered even with ignition in off position.

Blows main fuse when I turn on the key?

Posplayr, I think the R/R is on this fuse but before the ignition switch so it would blow the fuse even with the ignition in the off position. He stated it blows when the ignition is switched to the run position.

Blows main fuse when I turn on the key?

PAC315, looked at a diagram and have an idea. Remove the other 3 fuses and replace the Main fuse. It shouldn't blow when you switch on the key. The ignition switch powers the other 3 fuses so as you install the other fuses one by one, the circuit that causes the main fuse to blow will identify...

Blows main fuse when I turn on the key?

PAC, I will get a wire diagram and revert back with suggestions. You can put a test light in place of the fuse and remove things from the circuit until the light goes out. Could be anything from a shorted handlebar switch or headlight or even a shorted coil. Be glad to help and electrical is my...

    RFY shocks.

I installed a set on my girlfriends Nighthawk 750. Was so impressed that I ordered and installed a set on my GS1000. Both rides are better at all speeds and conditions. The clevis on mine was a little tight but easily rectified with a small grinder.
