A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    '79 vs '80 GS1000 E/S/base-model gas tank differences?

It's just the '78 tanks that had the sides indented for the skunk stripes, 79 and 80 were smooth sides.

    '79 vs '80 GS1000 E/S/base-model gas tank differences?

Are there any major cosmetic differences between a 1979 GS1000 fuel tank and a 1980? I know the petcock location is supposed to be different between the two, the '80 had CV carbs & as such the new Petcock had to be moved rearward more toward the seat. I also had read that your earlier petcocks...

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

Pardon me for asking another favor, but if anyone could point me towards the link of the original thread, I just wanted to read a few things that I recalled faintly from that, particularly about the twin pot break mod iirc the proper thread.

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

Where is everyone buying these Earl's Speedflex -3 lines and fittings from these days? I was trying to search and find the original thread, but gave up after 45 minutes. I did however find some very negative feedback about customer service from ANPlumbing.com from a member here who had most of...

Another sign of what is ahead for the motorcycle hobby...

At first, I thought the automotive problem was just that economists were complaining that no one was buying US & American made / US-sold vehicles anymore, but apparently these concerns are more that people are just simply not desiring to own vehicles at all? I would say that the articles seem to...

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

Does anyone off the top of their head recall the banjo bolt thread sizes? I know different Japanese manufacturers use two different thread pitches, I believe Suzuki and Kawasaki vintage stuff were different thread pitches, but same diameter. I am primarily interested in doing 2 full lines all...

    oil cooler

Very good to know that! I'm foolish for running my last +3mm big bore kit without buying one of the $140 oil cooler adapters to run one of the 2 or 3 oil coolers that I have on the shelf... The next big bore builds will all be getting oil coolers... I ride in the heat from Ohio down to North...

    Finally Returned to West Virginia

Scott, Scott, Scott... You hardly touched upon the really great twisty roads of WV in that trip/route! It gets EVEN BETTER! WAY BETTER! Route 60/16 east of Gauley Bridge to Hawk's Nest or following 16 south from 60 is fantastic as you may likely know... Rt 61 aka Deepwater Mountain Rd from Deep...

    1977 GS750 spoked wheel upgrade

The twinpot brake mod, I HIGHLY SUGGEST. New or used rotors, calipers, lines, & master cylinder. It's in my top 4 GS GS mods WITHOUT A DOUBT! Soft sticky sporty tires, charging system upgrades & ignition relay, front twinpot brake upgrade, & cartridge emulators in the forks... Most important...

    1977 GS750 spoked wheel upgrade

I have many sets of GS hubs with aftermarket rims... Some of which I laced up myself. I was just talking with Buchanan's today about more, actually! It's about $122 per wheel for upgraded double butted 8g/10g spokes & nipples (all stainless). Excel Takasago rims are great. The dimpled rims look...

    Front tire clearance question

100/80-19 is ONLY for a 2 50x19 rim, you're probably running the stock 1.85 rim, so it's a huge NO! As Steve stated, 100/90-19 is already 1 size up from recommend... Steve! You should've kept a Shinko 230 front and just ran an Avon AM26 rear! Dunlop hardly makes anything resembling a sporty...

Potential Group Purchase - Wiseco GS650 741cc pistons

Perhaps you could try some Facebook groups for vintage Japanese motorcycles? Perhaps there is even a Facebook group for Suzuki GS's. The viewership is much higher, but the past information is perpetually just lost deeper and deeper in the archives, so the forums are far better for reference &...

Potential Group Purchase - Wiseco GS650 741cc pistons

No I have several sets here already! Only 1 engine ready to go with them, got stalled due to difficult long recovery from knee surgery & spending all my time since I was capable enough riding my GS vs wrenching! I may in the coming years order a 1-off batch of 58mm(?) 570cc GS650 pistons for a...

Potential Group Purchase - Wiseco GS650 741cc pistons

I've got several from the first batch (for my 2 projects + spares for me in the future) including one that I was hoping to have fired up by now (major personal injuries/surgeries and too many projects!!!), but I am happy to see the possibility of another batch of these getting made! I'm not...

Another sign of what is ahead for the motorcycle hobby...

Here in the capital city of Ohio, Columbus, I see TONS of Japanese and quite a few European bikes. On rural rides I see sport bikes and motards some, sometimes often, but generally I see more slow poke Harley cruisers and to a much lesser extent "metric" cruisers (I consider Harley's "Metric...

    650E Compatible Parts List?

the 650E bottom end parts are same as most GS550 8V. even the cases part number I'm assuming for 1981+ GS550 is same as a GS650E. I think you could run a GS650E set of crankcases even with parts from a kickstart 77 GS550 bottom end and clutch cover. Crank rods etc all the same. clutch basket...

    SE Rally routes

I wasn't around the GSR back then, but I can share with you my routes that I just put together for my tentative 5 day extended twisty scenic trip from Parkersburg WV (from Columbus, OH but WV is where the fun starts) down through WV, southwest VA, Eastern TN, Western NC, and then express route...

    Metzeler Sportec Klassik

I'm not sure if they are discontinuing those, I have never used them based on the feedback on other high performance bias-ply vintage sized tires being so incredibly positive, but Metzler did just now start introducing the DOT-approved Racetec RR ultra high performance / track day tires in...
