A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    850 top end on 750

That is my understanding also...... I think it is like putting KZ1000 cylinders on the 900 block. -wazz

    4V or 8V TSCC?

Joe Nardy has taught me a few things, just needed to pay attention to the Old dude ;) -greg

    4V or 8V TSCC?

The 82 Katana is the only 4 valve GS1000 to my knowledge. The engine is actually a 1100 4 valve, factory sleeved down to 1000 for AMA rules at the time (unless I'm mistaken). The cam end cover are always a dead giveaway. -greg

    Finding 1978 gs750 performance

I can only speak for the 79 850 top end, it is a direct swap for 2 valve 750 engines and uses the same carbs, later 850s used CV carbs and I'm not certain of the fitment. -greg

    Finding 1978 gs750 performance

Sorry to pitch my own auction, but I have a complete 79 850 top end on ebay right now. This is the only year 850 to use the same VM26 carbs as the 2 valve 750. Item # 180327377315 -greg

    Exhaust wrap?

Ebay can be your friend...... 2" x 50' black wrap w/ 5 straps (which I didn't use) delivered for $26. High temp paint is maybe $4 an can.... Cheap improvement for ugly but solid pipes :) -greg

    Exhaust wrap?

Thanks Rudy Wondered about it myself, but that that was the concensus when I was doing my research. The header on my project bike was beat and rusty, but solid, so now it is wrapped. :) I'll learn long term effects firsthand someday. ;) -greg

    Exhaust wrap?

A spray bottle of water helps the installation, it seems to go on better just a little wet. Use zip ties to hold the beginning until your happy and then I'd recommend stainless hose clamps. Didn't have any luck with stainless straps provided with the kit. A 2x 50 foot roll will do our...

    Shaking handlebar when braking

Steering head bearings (beat me to it ;) ) Tires can contribute to a decel wobble, but seem to amplify loose or worn steering head bearings. IMHO -greg

    Moisture Repellant/Coating for metal?

Getting bike off the concrete makes a big difference, plywood on top of plastic sheeting works well and holds off some condensation. This is one of those "heard it from an old racer" things so it must be true..... ;) -greg

    1980 GS100E Header, carbs & cam upgrade

At the risk of hijacking the thread..... I'm getting started on a bit of a project myself. The carbs that came with the bike are disassembled and missing some parts. Question is since the early 750 and 1000 both ran VM26 carbs, would they interchange? Just a rough check LOOKS like...

Input on bags that will look right on my '81 GS1000?

For some good bags at great prices check out www.motopakluggage.com . They had been running some ebay auctions alos and you can end up with luggage below normal retail. I use a Motopak Tankbag every day and the saddlebags when the GS hits the road. -greg

    1984 GS 1150 engine into GS1000L frame

    Isn't the '81 1000L a "shaftie" ? ( I think '79 was the only chain drive 1000L ). May be tough going with a 1150 chain drive engine..... -greg

    Low-Buck Rotor Puller (external thread)

This may be common knowledge and I'm just showing up late for the game, but just in case it is not well known, thought I'd mention it. A low-buck puller for external thread rotors can be fabricated for almost nothing. The threads on the top of our fork tubes is the same as needed for the rotor...
