    1983 GS 1100 E goes for

Me too. Its the best one in my opinion. Welded crank and 19" front wheel. I had one. Think I paid half that or so for a pretty darned nice one, delivered. My nephew owns it now. That was over a decade ago. A lot of rules we utilized for drag racing to make it appear that Kawasakis had a...

    My Norton is taking shape

Beautiful. Leo Goff was getting his street P11 into the 11s back in the 70s and 80s. That is basically your bike but with the Chrome Moly Matchless G80CS frame. Nortons fast and reliable compared to the BSA Triumph and AJS/Matchless twins. I had this Atlas in the 70s up to the 90s. I did...

    do you like safety switches?

I don't care for safety switches in general. Babbits doesn't carry the clutch switch, though all the parts appear to be available. I do not like the quality of the Suzuki GS clutch switch and the front brake light switch, $35.00 or so at Babbits. I have experienced both getting full of crud...

    78 GS1000 original owners

The 1980 petcock has a petcock without any prime lever. You can get it with a screw driver. Its really great. My '78 Skunk has a dealer replacement tank with the difficult to use 1980 petcock. That said, it is still a beautiful bike. Todd might disagree. I have a decent 1978 tank, but a PO...

1982 GS1100E from the grave to today.

And a shaft. That would have to be a '79 1000L, 750L, or a tiddler. I agree with the owner. The bike was not a bike now it is. A running bike has a lot more possibilities than one with a stuck motor. I might fix up a running bike, but not to tear the engine down. I had an '83 1100E a...

    Shindengen SH-775 installation.

Of all the GS I have owned, only two have not exhibited signs of overheating at the three stator connections. Best to make certain that isn't going to occur again. I suspect that kills stators too.

carb bowl with a drain screw

I've been thinking about cutting a little slot in the threads on the drain plugs on my GS1000Gs. so that they will drain more easily without complete removal of the drain plugs. Can't say I don't like the float chamber drains shown in the post.

Slight noise sops when I pull in the clutch

So it is confirmed that the 1100/1150 clutch hub nut is compatible with that on my 1000G? I've ordered the release bearing and the hub bearing and the washers. I can live with the noise, but if I take it apart I want to have parts tp put it back together. APE wants $30 for their nut. They...

Slight noise sops when I pull in the clutch

APE told me that their billet clutch basket is deeper than the 1000G and won't fit, but they can do a repair and reinforce on my existing basket if needed. Four or six weeks though. So far, all I've done is put a couple hundred more miles on it. No noticeable change in the noise level. As...

Slight noise sops when I pull in the clutch

Thanks. I might look into that. The noise just started, and it is barely audible. it is a 60 something thousand mile bike, probably in the 66 to 68k range. I switched out the speedometer a long time ago hoping that the distance signal in it was the reason the self cancelling turn signals...

Slight noise sops when I pull in the clutch

I'm pretty sure its the big bearing behind the clutch basket, but I'm not sure. I noticed that there is a small rattle type noise in neutral on my'81GS1000G which stops if I pull in the clutch. It isn't loud enough to hear when in gear. Everything is working fine. The only time I ever looked...

    '81 gs1000g starter clutch compatability

Gosh, I didn't know you couldn't get these any more. I needed one for the 1000G I keep in Maine about 10 years ago. I bought everything, including the bearings and both gears only to figure out it didn't fit. I had not known that a PO had switched it the engine to a 1983 1100G which has a...

I haven't cleaned it since the incident. There is a bit of oil on the top ohad had f the right cylinder. This bike has never leaked, and still doesn't. It has regularly black dirt stick to the front of cylinder base gasket. I would expect for the gasket to push out near the front side of the...

    Strange fuel issue resolved

I was having an issue with the 60,000 mile GS1000G I keep in CA. It would not take throttle. As it was ridden, it would lose power, and accept less and less throttle. Got stuck climbing hills in first gear at 20 mph, and finally had it towed. I had left it on Prime previously, and allowed...

    Are the points reliable?

OEM points and condensers are expensive. Cheap ones may not be that great. I still have cars and motorcycles with points. Put an electronic ignition on my Cortina, because the distributor is under the side drafts. It got an intermittent fault where it would misfire after an hour or so. I...

what did you wrench on today??

Finished with carb rebuild on the RD400 that's been sitting. Spent Several hours with a Harbor Freight hot glue dent puller working on a couple places on the tank. Needs more. I'm getting used to it though. It won't fix everything. There are 3 dents, the small ones are stubborn. I'm...

Any opinion on rebuilding a starter?

That's what I have, a two brush. One of the springs is broken. It can use brushes too though, at least one. I bought a $16 kit off of E Bay which is the wrong one. I searched the forum off and on for a couple days, but didn't find this until this morning. I've got the correct kit coming...
