A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    What is this wire?

Sometimes the oil filter gasket just doesn't want to lay in the groove.

    What is this wire?

I suspect that the vacuum petcock, clutch / starter interlock, and sidestand light are the result of product liability nanny switch suits. The oil leaks you have, with the exception of the oil filter housing if its a stripped bolt, are pretty easy to fix.

A new addition to the bicycling stable

Around here, I usually ride on bike paths along the rivers, paved side roads, and paved beach bike paths. Its easy to social distance. There are E Bikes whizzing by at 30 to 40 mph, and their numbers seem to increase by orders of magnitude every year. Lots of irresponsible riding. On the...

    Thoughts on 79 XS1100

The jacking ruins the bike in my opinion. By the way, when it was new, a XS11 would pull away from my 850 Commando in a top gear roll on at 60. A GS1000E would not. The GS1000 could catch up eventually, pass, and be gone, given enough road, but lost the roll on. The jacking is fun when you...

Summit Racing sells this stuff too. I have been buying more and more stuff from them lately. Price and availability. This stuff hasn't got any less expensive since 2012.

    Rebuilt carbs #1 not firing.

I got a carb float needle to stop leaking on a 1000E by opening the offending float bowl drain plug, and letting it refill, and opening up the float bowl drain again, a few times. Those have a large drain plug. It may not be a permanent fix, but it has worked so far. I always assumed the...

    Beach cruiser GS 650

Couldn't have said it better. At least it started with an L, plus, it has a tiny rear fender and a rear spring. The common single seat with no rear fender combo invites the opportunity to be dragged down between the tire and bottom of the seat by the balls. A questionable engineering...

Thoughts on using long air runners in place of pod filters

On my firsr RD, when it got pipes and heads from DG, the airbox left. I put pod filters on it using the orifinal rubber tubes which had been installed between the reed blocks and the air box. It moved the pods back out of sight. I was hoping for some ram effect. It worked fine, and seemed to...

    1980 gs850 petcock?

I'm going to try on of these replacements; $90 for OEM is too much: https://vod.ebay.com/vod/FetchOrderDetails?ViewPaymentStatus&purchaseOrderId=240000460610037 Anybody tried it? I've used the OEM 1982 850/1100G type on a 1000G, but it is a sight PITA, with hose routing.

    Cmon man!...474 lbs 110hp but dosn't run 10s?????????????????????????????

Maybe true, Todd, but a magazine rider got a GS1000ES into the tens in 1983, and are you saying that tires are worse now than performance rubber of 1983? Tony Nicosia was they guy who got Kawasaki triples to do what nobody else could get them to do...

    Motion Pro throttle cable

The stock push pull throttle on my '78 1000E has a bit of stickiness to it. I have a new Motion Pro to put on it. More than likely, a good lube is all the original one needs. It has chrome steel ends at the twist grip, and they still look fine. The Motion Pro has black plastic ones. They...

    Another acquisition - XJ900F 1992

I bought two 650 Secas brand new in the late 80s. I bought another one in the mid 90s with a bunch of small problems for a couple hundred. My brother still has one of them. The Hitachi carbs were more prone to clogging with old fuel than I was used to. Compared to a GS850, it handled a bit...

My Brother's Yamaha TR3B Road Racer turned street bike

My brother bought this Yamaha 350 Roadracer which had been racer by Dan Hanebrink of Monotrak Engineering. It had a Daytona tech sticker on it, and a holed piston. These were 150+ mph bikes, which by 1972 dominated the 750 class at Daytona. The frame is pretty much a Norton Featherbed copy (I...

    What's a T?

As I recall from Suzuki adds in the day, "T" was for "Traditional" and "L" was "Low Slinger". (Sorry to disappoint anyone who bought an "L" in the belief that it was for Penny Marshals sweaters in Laverne and Shirley... it just looks like that). I believe that Suzuki went to the square turn...

    ... condensers ...

Its been close to a decade, but I got a free "blown up" '79 GS850. It turned out that it had a bad condenser and was way overfilled with oil. I ended up buying OEM condensers and points from Bike Bandit (back when they had OEM Suzuki parts). It was close to $100 for the OEM points and...

    Sources for Race Tech FEGV-S3301

I dropped off a set of forks there, and picked them up rebuilt with new springs. Haven't mounted them yet. I'm thinking of having them build some shocks. They are about 25 miles from my wife's house. It would have been cheaper to do it myself, but this was so convenient.

    What my timing light revealed

For what its worth, I easily did this on a frr '79 GS 850 I got to determine where the problem was. Isolated it to a bad condenser, as the problem followed the points, not the coil. Plenty of slack to do it on that bike. I still like points.
