I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Rear shock shopping

Had not considered putting them on backwards. Thanks, I'll take a close look. The Samsonite racks I use are steel tubing. I don't see trimming as an option. As to reusing old springs, no. I want stiffer ones. Thankfully, I don't give a rip how stock they look. Chrome, black, SS I won't...

Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 - good tourer?

I looked at those at the dealer. The look more accessible than a dual sport to short legged me, but I would want at least the speed of a DR350 in order stay ahead of old ladies in Camrys going over Rt 6. I like its concept though. Interesting that the new 650 Interceptor runs with the...

    been Dazed and Confused

There is an excellent thread on this site for fabricating your own lines, using super high quality material. Z1 enterprises sells prefab line in a large variety of lengths, and you have to identify and buy your swivel fittings separately. Looking closely at both, I thing the Earls ls less...

    Newbie Tire/Suspension Questions

As to the ride hight between yours and your friend's bike, your bike has air forks. Recommended air pressure is 8.5 to 17 psi in each leg, with a maximum pressure of 35psi, per Page 34 and 35 of the GS1000E owners manual, for the doubters here. It is common to switch to aftermarket springs as...

    Brake drags

I had a brake line fail internally on a car. It acted like a check valve, and would make the right front drag. Thought it was a seized caliper. I had heard of that, but I had never experienced it. Glad you sorted it out.

    Rear shock shopping

Well, the YSS shocks have a piggyback, which is cool, but will interfere with my Samsonite luggage rack, I'm pretty certain. The luggage rack stays. That leaves Ikon, which is supposed like a Koni, Progressive, which is the remnants of S&W, and Hagon, which is supposedly the ashes from...

what did you wrench on today??

Yesterday, I replaced the forks on a 1000G with forks with Gold Valve Emulators and Racetech springs. Had some grief with brake lines, but found I had decent spares. Determined that the brake light was on all the time, and figured out it was the front switch. Fixed that. It has a fork brace...

    Rear shock shopping

Just put forks with Racetech springs and emulators on the 1000G here yesterday. I don't hate the original shocks, but these are wearing out, and don't damp like they should. The bike has become unbalanced feeling with a soggy rear end and a much improved front. I can't afford $900 for a set of...

What spring rates are we generally going on the Gs? I've only had bad luck with Koni, I hope Icon is better. I have Hagons on wo bikes. I've had progressives. Some I've liked, some I haven't. Usually the problem was too high of a spring rate, which was something the vendor kind of talked me...

    1980 gs850 petcock?

I set the tank up on a 5 gallon pail and tested the petcock. It opens on "prime" and closes on "on" without vacuum. I held hooked it up to the carbs for a few hours. The carbs didn't leak on Prime. There is a bad oil leak though, coming from she well where the starter is, and running down to...

    1980 gs850 petcock?

I threw the old petcock out. Upon further inspection and testing, the petcock seems to me working correctly and the needles are holding in the carbs. I had the carbs and tank off the bike and connected up for hours yesterday. There was no sign of any fuel going where it wasn't supposed to, in...

Is it possible to ride these bikes too hard...?

I can relate that the more I use something, the less I beat on it. Doesn't matter if its a sports car or a motorcycle. If i don't get much chance to run it, I get more thrills from each chance, more or less. I think stock 2 valve GS motorcycles will pretty much run out of breath before they...

    wire harness burnt out?(overcharged)

On two occasions I have had a starter solenoid burn out from jumping a bike with a car. The first one was a '79 CBX, which had worn out the outer alternator brush and stopped charging between Anchorage and Fairbanks, AK. The second was a GS1000G which had been sitting for some time in my...

    My Gs850 project bike

You have a lot of sweat equity and parts money invested already. Unfortunately, it isn't really worth much more than you paid for it. If you have the money to buy a turn key bike, maybe you should. I have to say you have done pretty well with this one so far. You have listened to good advice...

Is it possible to ride these bikes too hard...?

45 mpg isn't bad at all if you're riding in town some. Flat out acceleration on my Suzukis seems to benefit from shifting just shy of redline on the tach. If I shift when the acceleration seems to begin tapering off, the tach is not quite to red line yet. It may be the tach is lagging, I...

    1980 gs850 petcock?

I installed the EBay petcock on a 1981 GS1000G. The orientation of the vacuum line is different, but of no consequence. The fuel line connection to the carbs ends up pointing slightly close to the frame. It is kind of minimal clearance for the bend radius of the high pressure fuel injection...
