A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I haven't done it yet. Maybe next month. Home problems.

    Thoughts on cruising RPMs?

Those are probably break-in numbers. On my GS1000s and 1100, I like the feel of accellerating from 2000 or 2500 rpm. Some old roller bearing Porsches had early lower end bearing failures which were blamed on lugging. I figure if it pulls hard, its in its power band, and its OK. For...

Trip Planning - Bangor, Maine area to Cumberland Ohio

That's something to see... Art and I have been threatening to ride from Cumberland to Mid Ohio for decades. He's retired. I'm going to be, but work is slow now, and I can get leave. My wife has planned a big wedding reception Labor Day Weekend. I'll probably not get to sneak away again until...

Trip Planning - Bangor, Maine area to Cumberland Ohio

Thanks for the suggestions. I was born in Lewiston, ME. We lived in Auburn. I own property here, and have relatives here. I'm not unfamiliar with Maine. Lived and worked at the Canadian Border went of Calais and in Portland. At Bangor High School, where I went to 10th grade, Sandy Beach...

    1980 GS1000G Tires Aged Out

The GS1000G I keep in Maine has aged out Metzlers. The rear is showing cracks. I'm looking at either Road Riders, or BT45s. BT 45s feel a bit grippier, but I don't think they last as well as the Avons. I haven't experienced the premature cracking some have experienced with the Avons. I'm...

    Engine case allen bolts

I've done it both ways. Z1 lit is really complete, and inexpensive. $35 doesn't buymuch SS at Ace. I like http://www.dmpfasteners.com/ too. I wanted the 10mm lower fork pinch bolts and acorn nuts in SS with Allen head bolts. DMP had them. Lots of button heads too, that look good on the...

My first time in Ok City, I was living in Wichita, and rode my new RD400 down to the Fair to see the half mile races. 1978 or so. Bartells Harley Davidson had some Cadillacs converted to pickup trucks. Fun time.

    Cheap petcock for GS850s

Thanks. I stuck a 1982 on GS850/1100G petcock on on a 1980 1000G. It was less expensive compared to the correct one. The extra hose routing is a minor PITA.

Suzuki Dealer I have known for 50+ years is closing

Yesterday, after hitting Donut Derilicts on my '81 1000G, I ran a couple errands and rode over to Southland Cycles in Garden Grove. I remember them from the mid 60s when I used to live near the place. My brother's X6 came from there. Two of his friends bought Titans in high school. 5 or 6...

    Krauser and Samsonite Bags

Close up of how the Samsonite Luggage mounts look. Six bolts will take the side bag mounts off of both sides. With these, you can leave the grab handle on the left side frame rail on. The centerstand is much easier to use with these than with the Krausers mounted.

    Krauser and Samsonite Bags

This is the first set I bought. You can see the covers. This one had a failure of the elastic on one of the covers. It never caused a problem when used on the trunk. If you buy these, and there were a lot sold for GS850/GS1000, among other brands, they more often than not do not include...

    Krauser and Samsonite Bags

Been tidying up the Krauser bags on the GS1000G I keep in CA. They are narrow installed compared to Samsonite. They are easier to install and remove as well. Gravity often removes them in fact, if things aren't perfect, according to BMW forums. These are the old type which are more prone to...
