Procedure for removing rotor on 1100ED

Yep. Got your PM. Thanks for that. I’ve actually got a hard copy of that guide so I knew the exact page you were referring. W/R to building the extraction tool, yes looks pretty simple to fab. However I don’t have a welder. My wife draws the line at things that can burn the house down. The tool...

Procedure for removing rotor on 1100ED

I got the nut off. Small amount of heat and impact wrench and the retaining nut broke free. I didnt even have to hold the crankshaft. Now I will just wait for the puller to arrive and i should be able to extract the rotor. Thanks for the info! Regards, Darrell

Procedure for removing rotor on 1100ED

This is a 1983 GS1100E. The starter clutch recently started to grind on start attempts. Replacement springs and rollers ordered. Lets hope (pray) its a simple fix. Anyway, im looking at the service manual for removal of nut that secures the rotor. It calls for a Rotor Holder special tool. This...

Exhaust temps - fine tuning carbs

Hi Big T Sorry.. typo. I wrote it backwards. I leaned number 4 (+1 turn to 1 3/4) and richened number 3 (-1 turn to 3 3/4). I’ve updated that in my original post. Im counting 1-4 from clutch side to throttle side. Just like they are numbered on spark plug wires. I normally write my reading in...

Exhaust temps - fine tuning carbs

Hello all. Thanks for the feedback on this topic. So i did do run this test. Sorry, this is just my nature to need to understand things. My findings: Originally with all carbs tuned to 2 3/4 turns, i measured exhaust temp (immediately after ride), directly at first bend on exhaust pipe on all...

Exhaust temps - fine tuning carbs

Bike: 83 11E Background: Carbs and bike are performing beautifully. Im running stock exhaust with pods and Dynotec stage two kit. Mixture screw at 3 turns. Idle rock solid, mid-range and full have good power and response. Carbs balanced, valves adjusted, new plugs, new coils. Im could not be...

    Electrical mods - confirmed working

hi Suzukian .. I wired them in parallel. Just to be clear on my answer. The resistors came with a red and black lead from the resistor itself, then each lead split off into a male and female bullet. I unplugged the + wire on the high beam and connected the red bullets from the resistor to each...

Mixture screw has no effect.. What does it mean?

One last post on this topic. I went back and checked it was tom203 that suggested plugging the vacuum hose on number 2. Thank you tom203. I own you one.

Mixture screw has no effect.. What does it mean?

Very good news on the carb number 2 oddity. I successfully rebuilt my fuel petcock (from Z1Enterprises) this weekend. Problem solved! She absolutely purrrrs like a kitten now. I have been fighting this carb problem for well over 9 months now. I just could not get the idle dialed in the way i...

Mixture screw has no effect.. What does it mean?

So i ordered a petcock rebuild kit from Z1Enterprises. We will see how it goes. In the meantime, i installed a solid piece of rubber where membrane was in the petcock. I also put an inline fuel cutoff. This way i can still ride the bike while waiting on the rebuild kit. Another thing that i...

    Electrical mods - confirmed working

Hello Who, Once again, Thank You! for the detailed writeup. I absolutely cherish these types of exchanges. This is how we learn from masters like yourself. Your attention to detail cannot be more appreciated. So based on your feedback, i swapped the sensor around (a few times) to see which i...

Mixture screw has no effect.. What does it mean?

So im definitely on to something with the vacuum on number 2 and the petcock. However, i do not believe there is anything wrong with the vacuum hose itself. Its a brand new hose and its genuine Suzuki parts so its the right size. Also, to further confirm this, i have disconnected the hosw from...

Mixture screw has no effect.. What does it mean?

tom203 WOW!!! You are correct!!!! plugging the petcock vacuum fitting magically causes the mixture screw to magically work again. Amazing!!! Now, what does this mean? Does it mean that i have faulty vacuum seal in my petcock?? Many, many thanks for the tip. Regards,

Mixture screw has no effect.. What does it mean?

Humm.. Interesting idea. Are you thinking that the petcock is not forming a good vacuum? Its obviously doing enough vacuum to open the petcock valve, but you could be on to something about it bleeding off too much vacuum thus looking like a vacuum leak. Im going to try that tomorrow morn. Great...

Mixture screw has no effect.. What does it mean?

re: how is bike running?? This is the really odd part. Its running perfectly. Idle, mid-range and full all doing great. Its certainly not causing any problems that I can tell, but just really strange that one is not working like all the rest. I just saw that someone also suggested to plug the...

Mixture screw has no effect.. What does it mean?

So i removed the stack last night and removed all 4 mixture screws. No broken tips. I even went so far as to measure all 4 with a micrometer and they are all same length. I verified that i can see daylight down each hole so no blockage at the tip anyway. I put carb cleaner down the hole and blew...

Mixture screw has no effect.. What does it mean?

[Backstory] After nearly 3 months of of fiddling with my newly rebuilt carbs on my '83 11E, i finally made a breakthrough last week. I will document this journey in a separate post once i get this last mystery solved. I doing the final, fine adjustments and ive run across something strange...

Yes. Amazing and very impressive. Good on you for holding on to it all these years. Is it an 11e? Blue or Red?

    Electrical mods - confirmed working

Interesting idea. Yes, for sure the coverage is not ideal with the LED, but intensity is vastly improved. I ended up doing the swap for better visibility for other drivers. I have nothing scientific to back it up, but the LED bulbs white hue seem to be much more visible during the day than the...
