A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    GS1000 head paint

Good morning Steve. The pictures I have exceed the limit for posting according to the message I get when trying to down load here. I've sent you a PM on here with my contact details so I can send you some pictures directly. If anyone can tell me how to resize them then I can try again. Be...

    GS1000 head paint

Absolutely nothing added Rob aside from some upgraded brake hoses. I prefer it as is. The crash bars were already fitted when I purchased her and proved their worth when some driver pulled out of line of traffic. GS 1 , car 0. The crash bars caught her bumper and pulled the lower front of her...

    GS1000 head paint

Thank you for the comment Rob. She still looks essentially the same today as she did then. This includes the original paint job which could probably now do with a refresh but still looks good enough. She was for many years my daily bike for commuting when I worked in London. These days she's...

    GS1000 head paint

Advert picture of my bike from the dealership near Leeds and that was over twenty years ago. It was a very nice ride down to sunny Eastbourne.

    GS1000 head paint

I have looked on eBay but the postage cost(s) from the US are... interesting to say the least (as is the variable price of the paint). Thank you Chuck for your curing method, that's very useful to know. I'll keep on looking for a source here in the UK.

Unfortunately SP127 seems to be unavailable here in the UK.

    GS1000 head paint

Good morning all. It's time to tidy up the appearance of my "S", specifically the motor. I believe that the heads were originally painted and mine is looking somewhat the worse for wear and oil stained (cam cover weep) which is well burnt in. Can anyone recommend a VHT paint that matches the...

Thank you gentlemen for your replies. Definitely food for thought. I have some time this week to investigate further while giving her a thorough service. Regards to all.

    GS1000S cam chain tensioner

Good afternoon all, It's been quite some time since I have posted but the GS has been pretty well faultless over this years. However, it's time to check out the cam chain and tensioner on my GS as I get the occasional chatter, sometimes when cold but rarely once warmed up I have a cam chain...

GS1000S self cancelling indicators not working

I have my fingers crossed but it's going to be a bit of a wait before I can get the bike back on the road again. The self cancelling did work but has not functioned properly for some time now. I can turn them on (both left and right) but have to manually turn them off. I'm hoping that as the...

GS1000S self cancelling indicators not working

Thank you, that's very interesting to know. Is that accessable without pulling the Speedo apart or would I need to dismantle it?

GS1000S self cancelling indicators not working

Update- thank you for the comments. Unfortunately due to the scaffolders limiting access to the garage, I can't get the bike out to test it ☹️ I'll update properly once the "gentlemen" have removed the offending pipework in a couple of weeks.

GS1000S self cancelling indicators not working

UPDATE I've had the chance now to check the box. It was mounted the right way up and easy to get to. Opened it up and absolutely no sign of corrosion at all. Gave it a quick blast of contact cleaner (just in case) let it dry and reassembled and replaced it. Still allows the use of the indicators...

GS1000S self cancelling indicators not working

Thank you, these are a great help. I will pull mine as soon as I can get out to the garage and see if it is salvageable. Please thank your brother for me to. I certainly appreciate the photos of the internals. David

GS1000S self cancelling indicators not working

Thank you for that information. Recently had a ride home in torrential rain. I'll pull the unit tomorrow and get it inside. Do you happen to know if the relays are easily accessible or I'm looking at a full strip down?

GS1000S self cancelling indicators not working

Should that happen is there a simple (?) fix. I'd hate to be minus any indicators.

GS1000S self cancelling indicators not working

It's a 1979 model I'm afraid. The units don't appear on sale often (even on the dreaded flea). No way am I coughing up what's being asked for a new unit. Guess I'll just have to stick with manual cancelling. A shame as it was quite useful at times.

GS1000S self cancelling indicators not working

Good afternoon all, The self cancelling function on my indicators has stopped working. It has worked intermittently in the past but has now stopped altogether. The indicators still function but require a manual stop (if that makes sense). I have cleaned the contacts in the wiring blocks but...
