A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Rotor/stator question

Hi there, I'm still busy perfecting my GS 850 with sidecar and after a year I have replaced the most electrical parts. last week I replaced the stator with a new one. The old one was a 12 pole and the new one an 18 pole. that should be fine the seller said but I found out that I only get 3,6...

Thanks for the advise. Today, the brake brackets from Dan came in so next weekend we will test the new brakes! That rear wheel looks nice. When the rig turns out to be good, I will consider it.

    My GS850 with sidecar

Yes, I also followed Itchy Boots a while and saw her riding in the neigborhood once (in Holland practically everybody lives in your neigborhood so that is not very special). We have a custom over here that if you encounter a fellow biker, you wave at eachother. So I waved at Itchy and she waved...

    My GS850 with sidecar

In another post I introduced myself but in short: my name is Hans Burgers and I live in the Netherlands. I recently bought a '79 GS850 with sidecar. In this post I will tell you about the rig, what is wrong with it (a lot!) and what I am going to do about it. Please comment on all of this...

Ahhh, thanks for the warm welcome. I already ordered the upgradebrackets from Dan. Horrible braking with a sidecar is an adventure which I already had in the past with an old Rusian rig and I will not go through the experience again. I will certainly look into the stator pages. I already...

    New GS850 owner

She has done 95000 km (59000 miles) with the extra weight of the sidecar, which isn't that much but she needs attention. The headgasket is sweating, cilinder 3 has less compression, gearshifter is leaking so, in the winter I will lift out the engine and pull the head off. And replace all the...

    New GS850 owner

Yes, riding a sidecar is totally different. My son loves riding with me on my normal xj900f but he has gotten epilepsy so a sidecar is safer. I had a Russian ural with sidecar 25 years ago and that was fun, but the braking experience on that one was...well....pretty terifying haha. That is why I...

    New GS850 owner

Hi there, my name is Hans Burgers and I live in the Netherlands. I recently bought a GS850 ('79) with sidecar which needs "some" attention. The 850 is not a stranger to me because I had one 20 years ago and I remember it as a very fine and reliable machine. The new one is a few years older than...
