A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Matching factory colors on 1983 GS1100E

Those numbers on the paint can are not a mixing code. I was told they are a paint chip code.. and as such, any supply shop would either have to sell that brand or know what paint chip database that it refers too. I'm just coming up against brick walls trying to get this resolved. I guess my next...

    Generator/Crankshaft nut "Resolved" but

Thanks guys for the suggestions and good info. I was able to salvage things and the nut is winding on and off with ease now. I ended up cutting about 5/32" of the end of the crankshaft though. I had messed up the threads there initially so much that my threading die wouldn't wind on square to...

    Generator/Crankshaft nut "Resolved" but

I managed to get my hands on a thread file about an hour ago. Not sure of the quality. Hard to find good quality tools in small town Canada. I think between the thread file, the threading die ,and a small triangular file I should be able to bring it back......slow and steady for the win I guess...

    Generator/Crankshaft nut "Resolved" but

1983 GS1100E. Looking for the best solution to lock the engine in place while tightening the generator nut? Seen a you tube video where somebody had used a braided rope but don't understand the theory behind what he had done. Manual shows me a spanner wrench on the rotor but until I actually...

    Generator/Crankshaft Nut

Looks like I'll have to remove any doubt and get some thread gauges. It's a brand new nut and from what I can see the threads appear fine on the crankshaft. I may just take the nut with me to a hardware store and see if it will wind onto a 14mm x 1.5 or 1.25 bolt or a 16mm x 1.5 or 1mm. That...

    Generator/Crankshaft Nut

That's what I was thinking but this bike sat for a few years after the damage occurred and I can't remember how hard the nut wound off. I can't recall if it was tight right to the end of the threads or not. Thought somebody might remember from memory or is currently working on their bike who...

    Generator/Crankshaft Nut

Greetings all. I am finally getting around to repairing a starter clutch failure on an 83 GS 1100E. It's taken some due diligence in sourcing the parts I needed for replacing some damaged items. The assembly is sitting back over the shaft and meshed in with the starter sprocket now, all ready to...
