A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Save the Date: 2026 Brown County Indiana Rally - June 11-14, 2026

Greetings, all you red-eyed, nail-biting, slobbering curve addicts! Get ready for another hit of that sweet, sweet, gravel-strewn lean angle... I just sent out the annual MASSIVE email to what I hope is a reasonably complete list of folks who might possibly be interested. As ever, please share...

    81 850gl Power Lower

Dropping spark somewhere intermittently is what I'm thinking, too. This can be really hard to catch; sitting in the garage watching spark plugs fire in free air is one thing, firing at high RPM in a hot and bothered cylinder is quite another. I've caught dying Dyna ignitions (SO many dead...

    Rear disc rotor 1980 GS850G

Interesting... do you have a source for metric rivets in the size needed? (Or if the holes are 8mm, 5/16" would be close enough.) You'd need the appropriate riveting air hammer and a nice solid hunka steel for a bucking bar, but it's certainly do-able. There may not be enough room for the...

    The GSResources 2026 Balance Sheet

Thanks for the nudge, y'all. Just caught up for 2026. I think that's more or less a manual process; they'll get us updated eventually.

    March Madness!

That 91-73 stomping (Michigan over Arizona) was almost hard to watch. You just don't expect to see a #1 seed fall apart like that. Over in the women's final four, Marge and I will admit to a bit of satisfaction seeing UConn finally go down in flames to South Carolina 62-48. UConn was just...

Hanging Idle (I know, but bear with me) and different carbs

Yep, Z1 is a good source once you know what you need: https://www.z1enterprises.com/valve-shim-295mm-220mm-330mm-suzuki-g-1.html The kit doesn't make any sense, because you'll never need half the sizes. Valve clearances tend to decrease, so you need thinner and thinner shims as the miles go by...

Gasket or crush washer or special crush washer?

It's a 14mm zinc plated steel crush washer. It's sort of tubular in cross-section, so it squishes and seals very nicely. For whatever reason, lots of people have the weird idea that you can re-use these forever, so you have to look very closely at your drain plug to see the remains of the...

    Fortnine review of GS 850

Ryan and this guy and one other guy do videos. And there's another guy who does bicycle stuff occasionally. No, I don't know their names. There's some running gag about deceased clones, so one of them is always referred to as "45" (I think his actual name is Connor). This bike is definitely...

    TRO.bike "777" Tour (7 Riders, 7 States, 7 Days)

Greetings, fellow vintage velocipedes! Just bouncing this up to the top for a little more visibility, and hoping a few GSR peeps will get interested. The 777 tour has been a bucket list item for me for a while, and I'm finally making it happen this year as a paying customer. So if my...

Do you still own a GS?

I've always been a one-GS type of rider. Just looked at the title, and I bought my 1983 GS850G in March 1998. I remember that it was above freezing when I rode it home, but there was melting snow everywhere and the roads were wet. What I had in mind, and what I had been searching for, was a...

Back in the GS fold (a familiar '81 850G)

Happy to have played a part in your relapse! Good to see a nice bike go to such a good home. And it was also great to get a chance for a midwinter hangout with some motorcycle friends.

    Shout out to Brian (BWRINGER)

Great to know your goodies finally got there, Ben! The tracking I could see sort of stopped when the package got to South Africa, so I'm glad they finally managed to get it to you.

    Shout out to Brian (BWRINGER)

Dang! Didn't expect to find a public shout-out when I logged in tonight. You're very welcome, Ben. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for the goodies to make it to your end of the planet.

Front OEM shock spring specs for '79 GS850G

Looking at an application list, I'm pretty sure those Progressive springs (if you have a set of 11-1145 springs) are intended for much larger forks with a 41mm outside diameter (for example, they fit most years of the SV650). Your bike's forks have a 37mm OD, so they'll need much skinnier...
