A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I didn't bother messing with the steering stops on my GS1000, I just set the clip-ons just before they hit the tank. At the speeds we're shooting for, I personally don't think the handlebar position will be the thing slowing you down. Of course, everyone has their own way about Salt Racing...

Excellent progress! Which class(es) are you planning to run?

    Gs1000 Bonneville Bike

I talked to a few friends. One ran 100-octane, the lowest octane rating they sell at The Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials and it was $15/gallon. The other guy ran the 116 octane and that was $17/gallon. Both said these prices were higher than what they were in 2016, so take them as...

RIGHT! Sorry, I forgot the petcock is a vacuum one. Well, you can always install a valve on the vacuum line, with an arm on it and run the cable to that. Might be cheaper than a Pingle valve - which would totally work as well.

    Gs1000 Bonneville Bike

The supplied gasoline STARTS at 100 octane. That's the lowest octane rating you can get if you are going to run in Gasoline class. This year, I heard it was $17/gallon. They have higher octane gas for higher prices. I can ask some friends what ratings & pricing (for this past year) if you'd...

"i hope you didn't run the engine with the screw dropped in there!!" Yep. Ran it. Crushed it. Bent up a valve. Ended my race week. BUT! I still got the record! Can you see a part of the screw still jammed into the head up top?

stevef, So far I've been lucky with finding actual 1980 models, but what I've seen others do, and what should be pretty easy with the help of folks from this forum: Find the PDF of the service manuals for 1980 and then for 1981 (I think 1981 would be an addendum to the original 1980 service...

GS1100E - STOCK Dyno numbers - wheel HP? or crank HP?

Obviously not gospel, but a neat little tool to use. I went 130mph this year with a stock engine (well, no air filter at all & 4 straight pipes). Hoping to return to the Salt in 2018 with just a little bit more power.

GS1100E - STOCK Dyno numbers - wheel HP? or crank HP?

THANK YOU, posplayr!!! I knew I had read that thread ages ago, but just couldn't find it. I've been reading a bunch of your threads recently, especially the one about low cost/high hp head work!

GS1100E - STOCK Dyno numbers - wheel HP? or crank HP?

I'm sorry if this is a redundant question, but I've been searching the threads and I can't find the answer I'm looking for. If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. I was looking for bone stock HP numbers for a GS1100E. suzukicycles.org says 88hp for...

    Gs1000 Bonneville Bike

SteveF. Can you get a stock exhaust and stock airbox for that bike? I know for a fact that the AMA 1350-P-PC record is a soft one. That idiot went out there in 2016, couldn't get his carbs to run properly, then dropped a screw in the engine and pretty much ended his race week at The...
