A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1985 GS1150 No Start, Battery Okay

I have a multimeter. I'm fairly mechanically inclined but not so much electronically (learning as I go; watching videos). What should I check for?

1985 GS1150 No Start, Battery Okay

I plugged the Y/G wires that go to the clutch safety switch to each other, as dorkburger suggested, essentially leaving the switch always on. I followed all the wires today and everything seems right in place, though I haven't tested it with a meter yet to see if the issue might be in one of the...

1985 GS1150 No Start, Battery Okay

Well, I just got slightly terrified. Bypassed the clutch safety, started up fine. Replaced the headlight (high beam wasn't working) started up fine. Did some bodywork stuff and started up again because I was happy she was running (though she's burning oil) and when I went to turn her off the...

1985 GS1150 No Start, Battery Okay

After installing a new starter relay and having no luck I started investigating all my switches. Clutch switch was the culprit. the inside was so full of gunk that the sliding copper piece that the closes the circuit wasn't making a connection. I bridged it, and she started up wonderfully. Wish...

1985 GS1150 No Start, Battery Okay

Found the solenoid (FSM calls it a relay, which was hampering my progress). First I did the solenoid bypass test, bridging the battery input wire to the starter output wire and it fires right up. Yea~! There were two little wires, the yellow that leads to the starter disconnect switch, starter...

1985 GS1150 No Start, Battery Okay

Did the first two steps and I'm getting good numbers. 12.85V key off and 12.41V key on after 10 seconds. Battery is compatible with no corrosion; the previous owner said it was fairly new and it looks that way

1985 GS1150 No Start, Battery Okay

Well, I haven't had a chance to ride my new and beloved GS1150E since I got it since it failed to start shortly thereafter. While I wait for the mechanical parts in the mail (replacement for cracked clutch lever, tools and parts for valve adjustment/carb syncing) I decided to try to figure out...

    '85 GS1150E Valve Adjustment - What's Good To Replace?

I'll make sure to get every last bit off. I want to do this right the first time. The carb sync tool my buddy is sending me is the same as this tool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0qf11BOx6o With the hold down bolts, so long as I don't' go past the recommended torque specs, all should be...

Thanks All! I haven't had much time to work on her since I've had to aquire tools and since I'm going back to school, but I'm slowly getting everything I need to wrench on her. Lots of fun roads north and east of this fair city. I've spent plenty of time on the KLR hitting many of the roads...

New GS Owner in San Diego

Proud to be a new junior member of the family! Started with a love for old Honda CBs, saw the GS1100ES and fell in love, and then the mischievous muse that is the GS1150E enraptured me. The bike was in Sacramento and I tried to ride it to San Diego. The bike was very under powered and there is...

VECI (Vehicle Emission Control Information) Location on a 83GS1100ES

Hi All, Do you know where the Vehicle Emission Control Information sticker is located on the GS1100ES? This is regarding the me importing a Canadian GS1100ES to California. The California Air Resources Board's requirement that the vehicle originally met CA emissions standards at the date of...
