1982 GS650GL Valve Adjustment quick question

Thanks for all the advice by the way everyone. I am aware to record the shim size and gap for each cylinder, so I should be okay without the spreadsheet

1982 GS650GL Valve Adjustment quick question

Who Dat? To answer some questions - I remeasured the 'correct' way, the results stayed the same but two of the gaps slightly tightened. The numbers on the left I was referring to are the numbers imprinted on the head next to each valve. You can see them here if you zoom in to the pictures. I...

1982 GS650GL Valve Adjustment quick question

Hey everyone - here's my update. I just check clearances for all valves, had less than ideal results - 12 - .004 in 3 - .0025 9 - .004 10 -.004 All of the other valves were smaller than my smallest feeler gauge, .0015 There was also significantly noticeable wear on exhaust valves for...

1982 GS650GL Valve Adjustment quick question

Also I hear that clearance is .003-.005, does that sound right?

1982 GS650GL Valve Adjustment quick question

Thanks for all the info, especially to check the number of bolts. Where can I find the valve shims that I need?

1982 GS650GL Valve Adjustment quick question

About to do my valves, but I am unsure if they are 'normal' valves, or if will be one of the shim valve setups. Also, are there any recommended sites for new valve cover gasket? I see the '16 valve guide' on bike cliffs site, but I am just unsure if that is the same for my bike. Any other...

Bike has 0 power under load when under 4000rpm?

I can insert a picture of the plugs later today and I'll take a video of how the bike runs tomorrow to make it more clear for everyone, but for now the plugs are black on the metal and a slight dusting of black on the ceramic; no tan anywhere, just black/white. Mixture screws are 2.5 out Carb...

Bike has 0 power under load when under 4000rpm?

And as a reminder because there seems to be some confusion, bench and vacuum sync were just done, the bike starts fairly easily and idles perfectly, has no problem accepting gas in neutral or with the clutch in, and rides great above 3000rpm. Everything is completely stock, and I feel that there...

Bike has 0 power under load when under 4000rpm?

Okay so I did a compression test and here's what I found. 1 - 110 2- 105 3- 101 4- 118. I'm not sure if that's low enough to warrant the issues i'm having, someone advise please. Here's the craziest thing I found; the spark plug on cylinder 3 was literally a different spark plug, it was DR8EA...

Bike has 0 power under load when under 4000rpm?

I'm positive all 4 run at idle, I can check compression tomorrow. Plugs are new, are good condition ngks, the coil is a dyna coil which seems to give good spark to all 4 but I can measure its power tomorrow. I'm sure the Dynas aren't ideal but it's what the bike came with and I can't find good...

Bike has 0 power under load when under 4000rpm?

Yes! Chuck did a great job rebuilding and I recommend him to anyone needing work done. I didn't have a hanging idle issue as much as it was a gradually raising idle with temp. But after loosening the pilot screws by .5 that went away. It went from nearly 3500rpm in a 30 minute ride to 1100 with...

Bike has 0 power under load when under 4000rpm?

Okay. I'm unfamiliar with the carb sync, I thought it was done with the pilot screws. Okay, so then the pilot screws are all 2 turns out. It is already starting pretty easily, and was even starting a bit easier at 1.5, but I'll spin them out some more and come back with an update

Bike has 0 power under load when under 4000rpm?

Finally got almost everything dialed in besides this issue, hopefully I will have a complete bike soon. As the title suggests, my 1982 suzuki gs650 is not running right only at low rpm, regardless of throttle position. To get the bike moving, you either have to start on a downhill or feather...

Getting close to giving up, bike wont run on all 4 cylinders

Personally cleaned, they weren't soaked just sprayed. But again from my perspective they really weren't very dirty, which is why I am hesitant to putting money into getting them professionally done, but I'll look into it

Getting close to giving up, bike wont run on all 4 cylinders

How could valve clearance cause this issue though. I know the all cylinders are capable of running since they have before, but besides that all compression is good.

Getting close to giving up, bike wont run on all 4 cylinders

Hi everyone. Mysterious, unsolvable problem with my 82 650gl that no shop around me is bothered to look at New parts: Air filter, plugs, coil pack, and carbs were just cleaned with new air flow screws All intake boots are good and every air connection is tight. Petcock works fine, gas instantly...

    In-Line fuel filter?

Yep, the petcock works great, but there are definitely times when I have it on prime with the fuel filter attached and it just wont fill up with gas. I'm gonna just get rid of it.

    In-Line fuel filter?

    The tank is pretty clean

    In-Line fuel filter?

My bike has a small, inline fuel filter right after the petcock from the previous owner, is it needed? I think that fuel sometimes has trouble getting through there (it is set up correctly). Anyway to make it flow better? I don't really understand how, but sometimes unless a vacuum is created...

Where to get replacement carb air screw

Hi all -- One of my fuel-air screws on my '82 650s (Mikuni BS32SS) carbs were severely stripped by its previous owner, and is in the process of being bored out by a local shop, and I'm going to need a replacement screw. Where can I get a new one? Also, while I have your attention, what is the...
