Tach question
Ok, I'm setting my bike up to run speedo only no tach. My question is do I have to plug the hole in the engine were the tach cable comes out? And if so, then with what?Tags: None

I would have thought you would need to plug the hole otherwise oil will escape, on my 650 their is a M6 bolt holding the tacho unit in place, if you take this off and pull the worm drive out you could pop in a S/Steel bolt and nylock.

During the transition from cable to electronic tachs, several models were made with a blanking plug.
Look on the cylinder head fiche for the 2004 GS500, for example:

About $10, and the seal band should be around $4

Tacho drive condition
hope it is OK to jump on this thread...attached is a photo of a tacho drive, just wondering if it is worn and needs replacing or is OK...the shaft that goes through the seal is 'chamfered' just before the sholder, can anyone tell if this is wear or design..there was a small leak out the seals but impossible to tell which one...
cheers for any help

did some measuring..the sprung seal runs 3mm up the shaft from the sholder..all cleaned up OK...just need to address the sheared retaining stud now....right angle drill I think
