Filter Pods for a '81 GS850
I need a recomendation for filter pods for my bike. I know that this question usually draws people from both sides of the fence but has anyone had success with these on my model bike and if they did who's pods did you buy & what are the jet sizes that I need to buy and also is there any thing that I am leaving out.

To make it short, get K&N filters. Get a quality 4-1 pipe to compliment and get the most out of the filters. Get a stage 3 jet kit that will be designed for use with K&N's and a QUALITY pipe and with some trial and error you'll have a quicker bike.
Basic tools/skills required to re-jet. Also, a vacuum tool for the carbs.
Oh yeah...some patience may be needed. And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Ask if the local liquor store allows you to run a tab......
warn the family that your going to be a different person for a few weeks and not to hold any grudges.
Keep the original airbox and filter set, it's cheaper than therapy in the long run to reinstall it.
Get Keiths Home number from Hoomgar. Buy the stage three kit first. Join Hoomgars support group meetings twice a week.
Bribe the local police to look the other way when doing plug chops. Chocolate covered Donuts with jimmies and those Boston creme filled ones are their favorites.
Keep telling yourself how much easier it is to remove the carbs as ....you again remove the carbs.
I am in the other camp in case you have not guessed yet.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need

That's funny.
One thing you said that's always made me think...about how easy it is to remove carbs with pods and how that's such an advantage.
People make it sound like the carbs are/will be removed on a constant basis and it's a plus to have pods.
If you do a good carb cleaning, rebuild what's necessary and set them up right, keep your gas tank rust free and keep decent filtration on them, run the bike in place once in a while if you live in snow or use Stabil, you shouldn't have to remove the carbs for many years. And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!

I'll eat my shorts if there is more than $2 worth of material in a set of them. :-)

Maybe we could make our own from a car air filter using soda cans for the metal pieces 8)

Make tht two, I'm trying to talk him out of it and save him from eternal damnation.
Besides you covered the technical aspects of it. The stage 3 kit is his best hope for getting it right the first time. If he has other issues with dirty carbs, syncing, valve adjustments, coils, spark plugs, petcocks, fuel filters, compression ratios, or bad luck he will find that out eventually.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need

Pods
Ok guys you have convinced me to not screw with it but my major problem is getting the airbox attached to the inlet side of the carbs.
I have a K & N filter already in the box.
I was actually looking for simplicity of application.
I know there might be a trick to this any suguestions?

Move the airbox back by loosening the mounting bolts for it. You should be able to get another 3/4 inch or so. The boots between the carb and airbox are pretty flexible compared to the intake manifolds so you should be able to coax them into place.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need
