How to clean new tank?
I just purchased a never been used gas tank for my 82 GS1100GL. It was apparantly stored in a warehouse for years and it looks clean inside. It has very small surface rust specs or brown spots scattered about but all in all looks fairly clean inside. Whats the best method to clean out the inside without hurting the paint? It doesn't have the petcock or gas gage float on it. The paint job is in like new condition.Tags: None

Here's a couple of ideas:
http://www.evaporust.com
http://www.por15.com/bSPECIAL-Quart-...2&category=180
Check out both sites. The POR-15 may have a smaller kit for motorcycle tanks.
If it's not confidential, please advise where you found your tank.
Thanks

It was advertized on ebay. I don't know all the details behind it but the info said it was stored in dry storage and was never used. It might not have been in a warehouse, I just assumed that. It has never had the petcock or fuel sender installed on it. It is also the exact color of my current gas tank. Do I dare wash the insides with soap and water? I will also check out the evaporust. Thanks.

A mild phosphate solution is the ticket. I've had good sucess with Jasco products (used to be available from Lowe's and Home Depot). http://www.jasco-help.com/products/prod_mg.htmEd
