So that was exciting for me. I also did some more looking and saw that the crank seems to be welded. I remember hearing that they were welded from the factory for a few select years, so i'm not sure if this is from the factory or not. There are some numbers written on the crank as well. Here are a few pictures of that:

Took my clutch basket out to put in my high volume pump gears. While i took the clutch basket off I turned it around to discover that it had been welded. Looks like they did something to the springs as well - Here is a picture:

Also I bought a basket nut for an 1150 as I heard they were slightly thicker than an 1100 nut. On the left is the 1150 nut, and on the right (gold-ish nut) is the one that was on. I just left the gold one on as it looked to be the same/ larger than the 1150 nut and the threads looked fine.Last edited by Guest; 04-18-2010, 08:49 PM.

1150 nut is for sure 1/4 thicker and are the same thickness as an APE nut/just not chrome moly.
if suzuki is superseding the nut numbers to a common(1100) then that sucks.
josh has seen my nuts there is a big difference.
you have a stock basket thats been welded.
be aware that it is no stronger than stock basket because they did nothing to help the flex that the helical gear causes(thicker chrome moly backing plate & heavier springs).

Looks like HD springs and stock back plate. The '83 engines like yours have welded cranks from stock so you should be good to go.Ed
