Swing Arm & Engine Cases Re-Polished

Paul Kahnert kindly offered to "improve" on my polishing efforts today.

Here he is working his magic on the sprocket cover.

and here are the results of his efforts

... and swing arm back where it belongs

Please don't complement him too much, his head already barely fits in his helmet

What are your thoughts on the frame paint?

AZR, it looks nice and there are no brush marks. Only time will tell how it holds up. I got parts back from the powder coater and there's no comparison, the pc'ed finish is so much harder the enamel.

If I were doing another full resto and money were no object, powder coating the frame would be the way to go. That being said Paul said he has used a brush-on 2 part epoxy paint that could be a good compromise.

Powder coated parts on left, and parts to be sent to chromers on right

                  A little Bling!!!

Got the parts back from chromers and very happy with the results.

The chain adjuster was chromed too and having it back, I could re-install the rear wheel. Note before'n after of same spot. Rear brake stay arm and carrier for the calliper were powder coated by GP Engineering. Also note chewed up rear foot peg which was addressed earlier.

Jim, did you use Polishing Depot for the chrome?
                    The exhaust collars look great.

Thx Steve, I went to Mayfair Plating, On Carlaw just south of Eastern Ave.

That is good to know. I have used Mayfair twice in the past with excellent results but had read somewhere they were closing due to the neighbourhood environmental police.
I remember riding past there years ago and seeing the Hells Angels bikes from around the corner lined up on the sidewalk.

Steve, Paul and I will be working the Learning Curves stand on Sat from 2 to 8pm at the bike show. Stop by to say hello, if you plan to attend.

The Toronto Motorcycle and Powersport Show is returning to the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place from February 14 to 16, 2025, and is set to deliver plenty of excitement, fun, information, and new discoveries for riders of all styles, ages, and experience levels.

Went over to GB Performance to drop off the re-polished engine cases (thanks again Paul) and snapped some pix of the sand blasted engine cases, that looked soooooo clean you could eat off them!

The cases will now be painted silver to get back to the original look.

wow....... nice work they're doing. Hey I thought I would post what I'm doing to protect the frame while the engine goes back in. I know I talked earlier about pipe wrapping but then I saw the price of it and being the 'recycler' I am this is what I came up with.

the co-pilots old yoga mat that she was going to throw out last year ( I knew I was keeping it for a reason). Works GREAT! tape sticks to it like no tomorrow, the foam on the one side protects perfectly and I can cut it to any shape I want. You can pick these things up new for less that $10 and there's enough to do 10 bikes if not more. My kind of tool/product.

Hum, great idea - I too like "recycling" that way! I wonder if cardboard would work, I have have plenty of that lying around.....
