How do you check your coils and plug boots?

Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance from plug wire end(boot) to plug wire end(boot). One reading would be for the secondary resistance on coil 1&4 and the other for 2&3. The Suzuki manual says this should be about 30 -31K ohms. To check the plug wire ends , pull back the top rubber and unscrew the end from the wire. Then check the resistance of the end. Should be about 5000 ohms. If not, get some new ends(NGK) and cut the wire back 1/4 " and screw the new ends on. Checking the coils primary resistance just involves unplugging the coils 12V power wires and checking the ohms across the wires on the coils. 3- 5 ohms here.

When you say to pull back the top rubber and unscrew the end from the wire, what do you mean? Pull back the part that I slip over the plug?

Mike, the spark plug end has two rubber boots on it. One to cover the end that goes on the spark plug and one on the other end that slips over the wire itself. You need to pull back the one that goes over the wire, Otherwise when you unscrew the spark plug end it tends to twist the wire. When you put the new one on, I put a little oil on the wire first so that the rubber boot slips on the wire easier.
