Same Carbs on GS550 and GS650???

Am I right in believing that the CV carb bodies on 1980 - 1983, GS550 and GS650's are the same.
I've just stripped both sets and the only difference I can see are that the loose parts i.e. needles, air, main and pilot jets are different.
Could I use a 650 carb on the 550 if I move all the ancilleries over?

Never tried it, my guess is that it will work

yes the carb bodies for the 550 and the 650 are the same, just use the 650 inner parts. the 750 may even be the same. the 550 carbs are bs32, which mean it has a 32 mm output port so any cv carb body with the dimension should work.

        550, 650, 700, 750, and 850

As far as I know the GS 550, 650, 700, 750, and 850 all use Mikuni BS32's. The spacing on the racks are all different and the way the throtle cable and the choke cable attach are different. And of course the jets and all of the internals.

I am currently stripping down a set of carbs off of a 650 and using the bodies with all of the internals from my 550 carbs. The bodies on my 550 carbs had all of the pilot air screws stripped out. I also have to change over the front spacers and the butterflies shafts and springs as far as I know as well. Hopefully I will be done in about another week.

For certain, 650 carbs will bolt on to 550 directly, only would need to change choke rail accessories. You can move all jets, slides, etc. Maybe one set of non removable air jets in carb bodies. I am currently running set of 650g carbs on 550L, will be trying a set of 650E carbs with 550 guts to see how they perform.

I do know other bikes, 750 and 850 use same carb body but have no knowledge of spacing.
