Stop Seeping Banjo Fittings Dowty Seals

Preventing oil leaks for top end oilers, oil coolers. 14MM ID. This is the cheapest source I have found. I needed 14 from my ED (top end oiler, oil cooler, oil sump plug, side plug where oil pressure guage would go).

    These work a charm

    14mm => 9/16" => -6AN

Sealing Washer 14mm ID, Rubber Seal$2.00

12 or 14mm plated steel washer with Vamac Rubber vulcanized seal for dead-nuts, guaranteed sealing. Use with oil, fuel or pressure fittings, etc.

    Or from Earl's
    <H1 class=productGeneral id=productName>Dowty Seal, 9/16” I.D., Fits 6 AN Fitting

    $5.25 Package Of 2

The low down: The Dowty's are a little more expensive and smaller. I would use them where you are worried about apperance

    Stat-O-Seals

The Stat-O-Seal is very simply the best sealing washer available. It consists of a synthetic rubber "O" ring mechanically locked to the I.D. of an aluminum washer. When tightened the "O" ring is compressed, forcing the sealing surfaces around the bolt shank. They will form a positive seal over a temperature range of -85° to +450° F. They provide the advantages of an "O" ring type seal without the necessity of machining "O" ring grooves into the part. In any application where you are now using a copper or aluminum sealing washer, the Stat-O-Seal will do a better job.

    Dowty Seals
Standard practice in the U.S.A. is to use crush washers, "O" rings and/or Stat-O-Seals to seal ports and banjo fittings. English practice is to use "Dowty Seals". Dowty seals are similar in concept to our Stat-O-Seals, but are considerably smaller in diameter (and thicker in cross section). Since many of our road racing and Indy cars- and their mechanics- are of English origin, Earl's offers a complete range of Dowty Seals.

Looks like the 14mm would make a good alternative drain plug washer too...

        Still leaking

I dont have any leaks at the bottom of the cooler. My line is leaking from the top where it meets the cooler. Ive purchased new lines and a new cooler and its still leaking. A washer cant go on top because the lines screw directly onto the cooler. I just cant figure out why its still leaking. These look good though so I will use them for my oil pan drain plug.

Summit Racing carries them, too. I'm going to try some on the oil pan and on my oil pressure gauge adapters.

I've found a source of these in 14mm. The cost is $1.50 each plus shipping. I have to buy them in bulk.

Anyone interested? The store Jim found charges a lot for shipping so it ends up being an expensive exercise. These one you can have one for your drain plug for $2.00.

I could use some. Apparently I have a small leak around my case bolts and or oil pan somewhere. It's tiny, just a couple streaks on my boot but it ****es me off  I also need to replace the little buggers on the outer valve cover bolts. So I'd be in for 10-15 of em i guess?

One other area to watch out for Josh is the O-ring around the starter. If that leaks it spreads all over and is hard to diagnose

On case bolts I have pulled them out (one at a time) cleaned the threads with carb cleaner then spread Ultra Black: (really good stuff) and retorque.

These guys that Jim found have really bad customer service in my experience.... Shipping is 10 bucks (for 300 miles from Fremont to Redondo Beach) with no USPS option.

Their customer service guy was particularly unhelpful too...

One alternative: http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?fo...action=product still exorbitant shipping but parts are cheaper...

                      Dan,
The guys that I found were particularly good. I not sure what you did to receive such poor service?

I still have the service rep and the supervisors e-mail if you want me to dig it up? It is at home though.

They were even going to send me a free tee-shirt because they gave me such good service.

                      Jim

BTW why are you even ordering from them if you have a cheaper source?

                        Jim,

Cause I want some now & I don't want to have to buy 100 of them if nobody else is interested....

All I did was phone up & ask about their shipping - nothing out of the ordinary. No free T shirt for me... all I got was a can't help you, "it's expensive to move stuff around man"

Until the point that he was basically rude I was going to order 10 or so despite the shipping. Now because of the shipping & his attitude I'm going to go to Earl's & pick some up in person out of principal

Perhaps it depends who you get on the phone... & don't call on a Friday

                        Maybe it's the accent

                              Just an update....

Having received this I guess I would try these guys if I needed some more at some stage.

Dan, I'm sorry you had the experience you did, for what its worth we never have complaints like this, and it doesn't make it ok, but I can only imagine who you spoke with was having a bad day.

I totally agree that you were treated rudely and improperly and that is not how we treat our customers here, any of our sales people could have offered to sell this to you and ship it in a First Class envelope for $1, but whoever you spoke with acted inappropriately and that's not right.

Is there anything I can do to make this up to you? This is very important, and I know I can't undo what happened, but as a gesture on principal.

                              Thank you,
                              Javad Shadzi
