ok its getting old...make your mind up bike

so im still havin this dumb problem with my bike cutting out

today it ran perfect for a good 20 miles then after work i went for a ride hoping it would mess up so i can check plugs

well it felt like it was running on 3cly all of a sudden...had no i mean no power..and im 5 miles from the house...so after running wide open with it like this i eventually make it home...after a few embarrasing stop light stalls...

plugs looked great...now i put them back in the bike after about oh 10 minutes..it ran great for a mile or 2 the back to the cutting out but had enough power to run good..just small dead spots here and there

what the crap is going on

(also had carb sync checked again, and valves...both are spot on)

i dont know where to check...i checked coils but had nothing..(dont think im doing it right)

its got to be a wiring or ignition problem i suspec

    What year???
If its 80 or on could be an igniter or a coil taking a dump when it gets hot.
Checked your charging system to make sure it's charging properly?

I dunno what you mean on the igniters contacts.
The igniter is a little black box bolted to your batt box, are we talking about the same thing?
If that is in fact bad, they're ridiculously expensive new. Last time I priced one for an 1100G the one place I looked had them at over $600.
It's far cheaper to swap to a Dyna S.

oh no i was talking about the thing under the right side engine cover(if on bike)

also charging system is good, low/mid 13v idle mid 14v at 4k rpm

anyway i can test that box?

also i should add when it acted up..when i let out of it coming off the highway it backfired fairly loud..i wanna say 2 or 3 times...thats when it really got bad it seem as in the "3cyl" type feel, wide open up hills..if not downshifting to make it up the hill...it cools down and off you can go with sputters mcgee lol

I like to rule out fuel delivery,so.... remove vacuum line from #2 carb and plug carb fitting. Pull fuel line off petcock, using a hose and container to catch fuel, switch petcock lever to prime to check for good flow. reinstall fuel line, but leave vac line still plugged. Go for a ride using the prime position.

i dont think its charging system if it still starts with out charging battery
possibly dirty tank clogging up the petcock if it runs good then cuts out it has to be fuel starvation im guessing,i have have this happen to me b4 cause= dirty tank

after testing my charging/igintion system im really starting to lean towards a fuel issue...

i re-sealed airbox today, im gonna re-soak carbs, re sync carbs, once again check valves with new snap-on gauges..clean tank, new filter an clean lines..

if that dont fix it im gonna either sell it or burn it

Check all of your wiring connections, especially in the headlight bucket. I had the same problem on my 1100 and it was an arcing wire from the kill switch burning and arcing in the bucket. It would cut out and then reignite within a split second then finally out all together. Maybe not but worth a try.

Check you floats, fuel tap, plugs, plug leads.

My GS1000 has a habit of running on 3 with No1 being lazy. Its normally one of the above.

so after more an more toubleshooting...i ended up doing the coil relay deal...even though my bike had decen volatge there..

i feel like an idiot...cause it runs now...just some stumble at lower rpms

but i also put new connectors everywhere that had to deal with spark...

it will do a wheelie too i learned (clutch up of course)
