    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1979 gs1000E stator has 5 wires ?

Hello to all i am swapping out the engine on my 79 gs1000 E with another freshened up engine other engine lost compression #1 cyl only reading about 60 lbs not sure what happened will find out when i disassemble.

The question i have is the engine i am putting on has 5 stator wires and my old one only has 3 . 1- yellow , 1-green /white,1- white /blue i know it doesnt matter what combination they are hooked up .
but the other stator has 2- yellow 2- white/blue and 1 green/white .
could i just connect the 2 yellow and 2 wht/blue together , i cleaned up the wiring a while back got rid of all the plug connectors and extra wiring and make all the connections with a heavy duty marine s.steel terminal block works great and very clean looking have not had a charging issue or wires getting hot since
 
If you cut the insulation back on the 5 wire you will find there are reAlly only 3 for three phase. The extra wires are probably for a headlamp cutout circuit.
 
The extra wires are for the separate rectifier and regulator for bikes before 1980.
 
Just use one of each of the double colors and the one odd one. Tuck the other doubles away inside the rubber boot that goes over the connections. If you start the bike and put the meters negative in the one single color wire and the positive in each of the same colored ones youll see that you have the same AC voltage on both legs. Same with the the set of same color ones.
