1980 550 Ignition

Trying to diagnose a no spark situation. I have power going to the coils (test light confirmed), power going to igniter. I am bridging the starter directly to the battery so I am eliminating switches. I bridged power over the start button and kill switch as well so it's constant switched power that I know is reliable. Power in and out of the fuse box. I have the signal generator ignition and no points is there a way to test the signal generator is working? Clymer manual is ambiguous about this procedure. All 6 wires that are connected to the ignitor have good continuity with their respective components so I am pretty confident everything is connected properly.

Sadly the 550 ignitors are troublesome...make sure that you understand how things are supposed to work. The ignitor allows current to flowthru itself and an ignition coil, then a signal from the signal coil causes the ignitor to open this circuit, thereby causing the secondary side of the ignition coil to "collapse" producing a spark that leaps the two plug gaps connected to that ignition coil - same principal as points suddenly opening. It's tough to test this action and draw a conclusion. Many members have just upgraded to a dynaS system which eliminates the stock ignitor and signal coils. Sounds like you have check connections.

I appreciate it. I thought the Dyna S was only good to replace the points ignition. If it can replace these early electronic ones too then I'll give it a shot. Thanks friend.
