Has any one tried taking out the air box underthe seat and putting in a cone filter charger? If so Did it work, of course I have 130 mains and 4 into 1 exhaust on my bike, but my question is does it make a difference, and if so does any one know the size or maybe part number of the filter I need, it looks to me to be about a 2 inch opening but I'm not sure
Thanks

My 82 1100E came this way. It had a single large K&N filter in place of the stock airbox, with the front half of the box still in place. The filter was a cylinder instead of a cone, but that is a small point. K&N Part #B035B4.

The bike was jetted on the dyno with a Kerker 4-1 canister type pipe and made 102rwhp in that configuration. All this work was done for the previous owner.

Stock jets are listed as 107.5 in my manual and it had 130 mains in place with the stock needle in the #3 (of 5) position. Pilot jets were stock (47.5) and the mixture screws were 2.0 turns out. This is a Canadian model that had the adjustable needles stock. I would have to say it made a significant difference, given the increase in main jet size over stock, but I have never ridden one in stock condition to compare. From the HP numbers I have seen, it should make low 90's rwhp stock, so the intake and pipe was worth ~10rwhp as a guess.

I have since added pod filters and degreed the cams and it is stronger yet than when I bought it, but I have not had it back to the dyno to see where I am now. I want to fab a new large volume megaphone tailpipe/muffler arrangement and get it jetted for that before I get to a dyno again, but time (and $$$) is short for that work right now.

I have the air filter box removed and fooled with the oem replacement K&N. I used a piece of aluminum flashing for a connection tube. I hAVE THE AIR BOX AND FILTER SITTIBG ON MY SHELF. i ALAO MADE A MODIFIED AOR BOX WHICH I INTENDED TO USE WITH A MUCH LARGER k&n BIT NEVER GOT TO IT. I WANTED TO RETAIN THE AIR BOX EFFECT AND STILL HAVE A SOURCE FOR MUCH VOLUME. caps key :(

The forst setup worked well both before and after i installed the 1166 pistons and the pro stock spyder exhaust. A small amount of fooling with the carbs was i order.

Go To a bike dealership And look for a K&N catalogue--they make a bunch of filters that are listed by size aND SHAPE.

could tha tbe an old discontinued part,

Very possible. It is the only number on the filter and since I got it that way, I have no idea how it was ordered originally.

if you still have it, would you like to sell it?

I will PM you and we can discuss it.
