DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am rebuilding the stock carbs on my 82 GS1100 GLZ and I was wondering what smarter more experienced folks might tell me about K&N Pods. They look really cool and I would not mind losing the stock airbox, but I don?t want to complicate my life with a goofy ?upgrade?. I am not a racer, just a street/commuter/cruiser guy. Would these filters be a good move for me, or should I just leave well enough alone? Your advice, as always, is very much appreciated!

If it's running well & you don't have an aftermarket exhaust on it then leave well alone. Pods involve re-jetting the carbs with a dynojet kit or similar. You won't get the best out of them without an exhaust either plus your gas mileage will go down at least 15% so that might hurt the commute....

Dan :)

Monk,
I am putting on a new V&H 4 into 1, so re-jetting is going to happen anyway. Any suggestions, O Salty one? :-D

Path of least resistance is pods and Dynojet Stage 3 kit. Chances are pretty good you can just bolt these parts on and go ride. If you keep the stock airbox with the pipe, you may need jetting changes but they won't be as drastic and you will be pretty much on your own - unless you can find a Stage 2 kit which don't seem to be available these days. http://www.dynojet.com/jetkits/motorcycle/suzuki.aspx#1000

hey Steve if you do happen to go with the pods would you sell me your old stock airbox?

isn't this a great site, mate?
just moments ago you wondered how long it might take you to find that airbox (as per your thread), and LOOK, minutes later an oportunity opens up!

yep its like its fate or something! and today i got a new rear fender in the mail!

I would probably be happy to sell the air-box, if you are not in a hurry. I would want to be sure the new setup works good first. In my part of the country, wheels won't probably be on the road until first week of May.

Hey Nessism,
Thanks for the advice. While I am picking your brains,
what do you know about the dyna 2000 ignition, is this a good upgrade? Is it worth the price?

My opinion is that the stock parts are best in most cases. The Dyna 2000 does have some nice features, which most people don't need nor know how to use, but I don't think it's better per say if durability and reliability is your main goal.

I don't know anything specifically about the Dyna 2000 model, but since your '82 1100 already has electronic ignition, the additional benefits of a Dyna setup would be minimal. For those with older bikes with points ('79 and older), upgrading to a Dyna setup is great.

Thanks again to all for your help and advice. This forum has been an great blessing to me as I learn to work on my beloved GS. You guys are great!

1st week of may may be a bit long. Since I moved to Vancouver I always forget that most of the North American continent is in an icy bitter cold state in winter. I'm hoping to take a trip to Vancouver island on my bike for easter and the only piece that i'm missing that isn't on order already is an air box.

Yeah, this long New England winter is really el-sucko. I've got four feet of snow on my front lawn as we speak.

My winter bike project keeps me thinking of spring, otherwise I would go completely bonkers. 8-[
