DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey there brand new to the site. And the GS world

I just picked up a 1984 GS550L and in the middle of bringing it back to life the bike is in great shape runs well but seems to die at high rpm the carbs have been disassembled cleaned. And replaced o rings. The carb setup on this bike is one that I have never seen before nor can find much for info on. Was wondering if the gurus of the GSR had any idea how to get them set up properly to run in Victoria BC. I have a feeling the pilot mixture is week. The bike also a has all brand new plugs and fresh oil in it

thanks for your support and help

Since the pilot mixture only affects the engine at idle and slightly above I doubt if tweaking the adjustment is going to have any effect. Dying at high rpm is usually and indication that your charging system is not putting out the full 14.2 + volts above 2500 rpm. So check that out. You also don't mention if you have stock airbox and OEM filter or stock exhaust/muffler.

As a minimum clean all of the wires connectors to the battery, starter and especially negative lead on the battery to engine ground.

I forgot to mention that even though you have new spark plugs check the spark plug caps. Cylinders 1&4 operate off the left coil and 2&3 on the right side(most suzukis i've seen). Pull the plug wires off the plugs and measure resistance between 1&4 and 2&3 looking for about 22k ohms. More than that and you might think about new plug caps.

Tanks for the great info I have the bike running now it's all stock mufflers and air box. The one problem I have run into is the gas gage needs to be hooked up and the tank grounded for the electrical on the bike to work. I have cleaned the ground. Any ideas on what that might be?
