A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Got the top end off and the lower end cleaned out of all debris I will put the new valve in tomorrow and put the head back on. i should get the cam back in about 5 days...

Nice work...good luck with the head work.

How do you have a 79 and were able to install CV carbs?

Ouch... bent valve took out the valve guide. the new guides came in today. got the old ones out.. what PITA that was.
I had one other that looked like it may of had a small crack.
better to change it now even if it didn't..

well bad went to worse.. the head cracked when they installed the Guide. I found another head and just finished porting it and lapping the valves. the valves looked to be in great shape. got everything cleaned up, painted and new seals installed. got the cam back last week. The head came with all the shims so i hope with what i have i will be close to what i need. No more E-bay crap.. I should be riding it again this weekend.. :o

Well i got it all back together today. All timed and Valves set.
I have been riding it around the neighborhood.
it's running good, now back to final carb tuning.

Then i need to fix the Hard clutch. I bought a new aftermarket cable and that didn't make it any better.
I ordered a new OEM cable today. i will pull everything apart again at the basket and worm gear to double check, my double check.
I cleaned and lubed everything when i put the motor back together the first time But it's still like it was 28 years ago.

Well i got it running again. I got the vin check done by the CHP and the DMV cleared it and registered it. i am the only owner of this bike.. i bought it new in 79. it was off the computer because it had not been registered since 87. It was only $85 to Get it all done and legal.. just need to finish the paint and do a little more work on the hard clutch. I have taken it apart 3 times and done every mod possible to loosen it up. Its way better but still releases too slow. I am working with another cover to try to convert it to a hydraulic system I have a clutch master and slave cylinder off a cbr 1000. i will do a little welding to make some mounts to the inner cover to make the slave cylinder work... I hope... lol..20150725_180044.jpg
