A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I am rebuilding the motor on my 79 GS850. I have found a problem with one of the carb bodies. A former owner had tried to drill out the air screw. Bottom line, I need a new carb or used body I can rebuild. I know its a VM26SS but have had no luck in finding one or a set. I have seen lots of gs750"s but have been told they would not work. Can anyone give me a lead, advice, some knowledge into this problem. Thank You

I'd scour craigslist for part bikes. You can also post in the "classified" forums on here to see if anyone has one to sell.

the GS750 uses VM26SS carbs so there is no reason why they will not work. i dont know if the complete 750 rack will fit your bike but the carb bodies should be the same.

Which carb is it? :-k

If you only get one carb, make sure it's from the same position in the rack. :o

.

Its the far one on the right if your sitting on the bike. I thought the 750 might fit as they have a lot of the same parts in the rebuild kit. But the complete assembly numbers are different. Not sure what the difference is...maybe someone can tell me . Will 750 carbs work ons 850?

Yes, 750 or 1000 carbs will work

What you need to do is:

1. Post up your request for a #4 VM carb body in Parts-Wanted
2. Check with PortDave - he's one of several members who have these parts
3. Throw away any rebuild kit you have
4. Read the carb cleaning tutorial on BassCliff's site

If I used the 750.or 1000.carb, would I be better off changing out all 4 ? Are they exact replacements or do you have to make them work ?

I have a ton of VM26 carbs. Which one do you need?

Edit, I see it's #4. Want it?

#4 but I want to be sure I wouldn't be better off on the long run buying a set before I buy anything. But thanks, I may take you up on that.

Oops - fat fingers! Get the body from Tom and transfer it to your rack.

If you want a whole set I have that too.

Can rebuild them properly too, and if you really want it nice, can powdercoat the whole works.

sent pm to Tom. also, there is a fuel screw (needle) that comes in from the bottom. i couldnt find it in the diagrams. two of mine are chipped at the end. anyone know what part number this is or have any also?
