As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Can I use an early 80's 1100 model front and rear sprocket on a 79 GS1000?

The rear sprockets from the very early RE 5 rotary Suzuki's thru the GS1150's will interchange, only difference is # of teeth. Don't know if the smaller bikes will be the same. Not completely sure, only appx. 93% sure, the 1000 & 1100 fronts are the same

If they arent identical, they'll only be one tooth off.

I know that the 77 and up 750s used a 630x96link chain, 15t front, 41t rear. (i think in 80 they maybe went to a 42t rear)

my 83 1100 used the same chain same front but a 42t rear.

Either way, one tooth up or down in back will not make a DRASTIC difference in the gearing. Moreso if it were the front sprocket that were different. Otherwise tho, they are identical, and you can use any sprocket from a GS (i know 550 and up, not sure bout the smaller machines) on any other GS....unless of course, its a shaft drive...then, well, you're screwed. :D

Thanks, I thought that it had to be very close. I wanted to change to a 530 chain and sprocket set. The guy selling the item said it would not fit, but I think he was just looking at the package and really did not know.

He's fulla crap

you need, for as close to stock gear ratio as possible with a 530 set up:

17 tooth front
48 tooth rear
114 link chain
masterlink

If your stock front sprocket was anything other than a sprocket (say if it has a metal plate or something bolted to it) you will also need their 6mm spacer

Z1 has all this stuff, shipped to my door with an RK XWring chain, 160 bucks

18 front is better and ZX6 zx11 gsxr 750 1100 all use 530 front sprocket and fit gs 1000 gs1100

rear is easy I use sprocket specialists and EVERY size and bolt pattern available.. aluminum and steel choices

I also can get offset front sprockets for the larger rear wheels every one loves so much.. D&G chassis makes 'em with or with out outer bearing support.
3/8,5/8,1" , 2", 3", you get the picture..
