    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

81 GS1100E Vin..16 digit?

I went to the DMV today to get a temp tag for my GS1100E so I can ride it over to get inspected tomorrow and the lady told me I don't have all the VIN. 16 digits instead of 17 so the computer had no idea what was going on. She said that everything after 79 was a 17 digit. I know I head that it took a few years for motorcycles to goto a 17 digit VIN somewhere in 80' to 81'.

So I was just wanting to see what vin format, number of digits, everyone elses 81' GS1100 Suzuki has.

VIN JS1GU71A B2123456 I do have a space between the A and B but nothing stamped?

But other then that it rode nice, only put 2 miles on it so far and I have a feeling I'll be putting a ton more on once I get proper tags.
 
I think there should be a digit between the A and B. As far as I know that DMV lady is correct, the VIN should have 17 characters.
 
Had that problem with my '84 Kawasaki Voyager 1300.
The number stamped on the frame under the side cover was very easy to see, but only had 16 digits.
The number stamped on the steering neck had all 17.

I think the GSs only had numbers stamped in one location, though. :-k

My 1981 GS1100E has JS1GU71A7B210****

17 digits. I'd say put a 7 in there between the A and B and call it good.
Are you reading the sticker or the number stamped into the frame?
The sticker is hard to read on mine.

Wouldn't that be a "7" that needs to be between the "A" and the "B" ?

I wonder why there is nothing stamped... between A and B? Weird, maybe it was on the foil only which has been removed. I guess when it goes in for inspection tomorrow i'll make a note of it. I just hope it doesn't come back stolen now.. :(
 
That 7 is the check digit I think, which means it will vary from bike to bike, but we need another person with a bike like that to confirm.
