    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

81 gs650, coil wires, resistor question?

ive replaced the spark plug wires on the 650, the wires came from Z1 with a regular rubber boots on them (the old boots are shot, that's why i didn't reuse them), the spark plugs are not resistor plugs (no R on NGK plug) should i get an NGK plug with a resistor in it? or can i run it just like it is? :confused:
 
anyone? help plz, im not to familiar with the ignition system on these bikes
 
Remove caps/boots from coil wires- wire to wire should have a resisitance of about 12k ohm. Put caps/boots back on, resistance should now be about 31k ohms between them. Just use NGK D8EA plug, it's cheap. So you attached new Z1 wires into your original coils?
 
You are not required to run resistor plugs or boots. It will be just fine without them.

now head another question after thinking about this for a while. whats the deal with the resistor plugs and resistor spark plug caps? im trying to understand this system a little bit more...

Resistor plugs suppress radio interference from the spark plugs. If you don't have a radio in a fairing on the bike you should be OK>
 
However, if you do have a tube-type AM radio tuned to your favorite station broadcasting Rush Limbaugh, you will have issues.
Not with the suppression, of course, but with the fact that you are listening to Rush...;););););)
 
I've also found having NPR on the radio leads to issues. Not with the bike but issues of another sort.
 
hey, whats wrong with Rush? :mad: ive watched them live a few years ago when they were here in town :cool:
so other then radio interference it wont cause any problems, cool :) thank you guys!
