A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anyone know what the factory tooth count is on an 83 GS550e? I need to order a new front sprocket as mine is quite worn but i dont feel like taking it all back apart to count it. Also, if I'm going to be replacing it anyways is it worth it to change to a higher/lower count? I am not looking for more high end, but I wouldnt mind more lower end.
Thanks

kenny

14 teeth. I think all 530 chain front sprockets will work fine, but there are a few different bolt patterns for rear sprockets. I'm not understanding if you want shorter or taller gearing.

im not really sure either... i would like more low end power... but i wont achieve much either way b/c i only plan on doing the front for right now.

You could get a 12 or 13-tooth front sprocket. Front sprockets are cheap if you want to experiment.

for more torque/low end wouldnt I want to go taller??? say around 15 or 16? Or am I backwards??? lol

nvmd.... you are correct.. i am wrong. What about the chain? I figure if Im going to be doing the front sprocket I might as well replace the chain too b/c it is very loose right now and Im not sure it will tighten correctly. I found a decently priced RK heavy duty chain on bikebandit for around $30. Is this too good to be true or is it a decent chain? And I do want a 530 chain correct? What about number of links???
