    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

A newbie stator question

Hey yall i have searched and checked basscliffs website but havent found an answer. i am changing my stator tommorow (troubleshooted using the stator pages) along with the cover gasket. My question is, is there going to be oil in the stator area, i wouldnt think there is but i dont want to pop the cover and dump oil all over the place. Thanks in advance.

Also i couldnt find in the repair manual any directions, i assume just pop the cover pull the nut pull the stator wire in new unit and put it all back together am i right?
 
on cliffs page there is a section on how to change a stator. picture guide for dummies like me!:D
yes there will be oil, but justlay down some rags. and there will be a strong magnetic force holding the cover on, so carefully tap it with a rubber mallet or similar, and the cover must be pulled strait off....there are locator pins that keep it lined up.
go look at that stator replacement tutorial, its pretty strait forward
 
also, do you know how to direct your stator to the r/r? suzuki did a poor job designing the charging system on gs's. most members here rewire it so it is more efficient and less prone to burning up connections on the stator and rr, it should be on cliffs page, or else ask here how to do it, or do a search on the search feature.
 
yes im planning on doing it with the replacement, is there a bunch of oil or just a little
 
thanks glider i would love to use the center stand but some jerk removed it to make the bike a "custom"
 
No center stand, just lean the bike against a wall, just a bit, not much required.

Actually, a 2x4 under the left leg will tip it far enough, yet remain stable.

Sorry about your lack of a centerstand. Leaning against a wall can work well, too.

Here is how far it tips with a 2x4, which is plenty far:

Hi,

If the bike is leaning left on the side stand you will get a lot of oil. If the bike is on the center stand you will get a couple of tablespoons at most. If you lean the bike to the right, like Mr. Steve did, you will get no oil leaking out when the stator cover is removed.
