A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bike as it sits the other day.

Stock exhaust is way to quiet for me. I need some insight and recommendations on exhausts.

Keeping the factory header pipes and swapping the mufflers... Does anyone have any recommendations for a muffler that's not " ricey " for example on my car I have a Borla exhaust... Also in swapping my muffler, do I have to worry about re-jetting? Or that's only if I was changing the header pipes as well?

Thank you for your help and suggestions. Also does anyone know the diameter of the stock exhaust for a 1979 GS 550E?

Jetting "should" be OK with just a muffler change. May require a bit of a tweak here and there but no jetting should be required.

As for brand, Yosh would be my first choice. Kerker would be #2 but keep in mind that they will sound a bit more raspy than the stock.
I'm nopt a fan of Mac pipes. Just don't like the sound...

I put a set of Dunstalls on my 850 (were $60 each, lots of places sell them) a lot louder than stock (too loud so I sold them to a friend that is cafeing his 78 750. He loves them. They've got a good loud rumble to them. He didn't have to rejet his 750 nor did I need to on my 850.

It was these ones

Although I see a lot of guys putting the reverse ones on the cafe bikes. Not sure of the sound difference. Can't remember the diameter, I had them welded onto my headers but SVsooke did one smarter and had a fella weld an adapter into his header then he just clamps his revers cone muffler to that adapter. Wayyyy better, then you can swap out your mufflers as you want.
