DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I just got my gs 850l, and the filter material on the air filter is shot. Is there a replacement available?

Sassy are we?:o

Yeah.

Sorry. I've had a busy weekend, I'm tired, and I should just shut down my computer.

I apologize to Mr. drtybykr. You caught me on a bad day.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Stupid question so be as sassy as you like

When I look up the air filter for my bike, on the K&N site, it gives me a cartridge type, when the one in my bike now is just flat...how does that computer and is there a trick to replacing the stock with the K&N? My Clymer manual doesn't address THAT particular issue so I put it to you: go find a flat one or figure out how a cylindrical one would fit in the airbox. Thanks much.

A picture of your bike and of the air filter would be helpful as many of the GS's have been modified . It sounds like you have pods??

The stock 850 filter consists of a metal frame wrapped with a piece of formed filter foam. The K&N filter uses the stock metal frame but it replaces the foam. It's not clear what your bike has right now so it's hard to comment.

air filter cage that fits into the air box. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d44/rustybronco/PICT2048.jpg

weatherstrip is on the "top" of the metal cage and if you look closely you can see the K&N underneath the cage. remove the two screws holding the retainer (not visible in the picture) to the metal cage, remove retainer, install filter, place retainer on top of filter and re-install the two screws.

it's #2 in this picture. http://www.alpha-sports.com/spst/1982 GS850GL/01.gif

Hi,

Perhaps you'd like to start your own thread, and mention your bike's year and model, so that no one gets confused as to which bike we're working on, yours or the original poster's.

I'm easily confused. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

K&N, AFAIK, has both pod filters (one for each carb, with no airbox), and an OEM type filter (goes in airbox).
