DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

its not getting fuel...if i put the foam over carbs and cover one carb up so it sucks up fuel it will run...once its an for a sec it will fire back up again no choke or anything..

airbox on, choke on...it just hits here and there...

Set it back to 3 turns out, airbox on with filter and top. You may want to adjust the idle up a tad for now to see if it will start but be ready to adjust down if necessary. Prime the bowls if necessary.

Just a thought. Tom (TKent) gave you really good advice earlier so try it again. Also, is your vacuum line in good shape?

yep tried that already..didnt work...has brand new vac line

Okay Octain, I'll bite. How will the plugs cause the problem if it fires with restriction over the carbs (by hand versus the airbox)?

new CORRECT lol plugs...gapped to spec, and yes if i cover the carbs with foam/rag, hold my hand over 1 maybe 2 carbs completely soon as it hits take my hand off an i can ride it up the road no probs...runs rather good actually

I dont know but new plugs will eliminate any question of them being bad.
Honestly, I dont think the carbs are clean or the air box or something isn't properly sealed.

then cliffs site isnt right...i did everything the exact same way

No it's right but you'll be surprised at how many times someone will have to clean a set of carb to get them right.

Make sure you don't have any air leaks in your airbox boots as well as the box itself.

triple checked it

carbs are synced...

i did 2 turns out each one
If you can't get it to run, how did you sync the carbs? :-k

The IDLE MIXTURE ADJUSTMENT SCREWS that you have turned out 2 turns each, are NOT the sync adjusters.

The synchronizing adjusters are on the throttle shaft between the carbs. You do a "bench sync" to get them visually close to each other by looking through the carbs with some light behind them, so you can judge the size of the sliver of light. When you get the carbs on the bike, you start the engine, warm it completely so you are off the "choke", then connect your vacuum gauges and synchronize the carbs so they all have the same vacuum level.

If you haven't gotten the bike running yet, there is NO WAY the carbes are sync'ed.

Just guessing here.. Could it be the way you are trying to start it?

My 80 has no petcock. When mine acted that way i took the vacuum line off at the carbs. I used (mouth )vaccum to make sure the check valve was working.

well i think we got it figured out...my idiot self didnt hook up the vent line from top of airbox to breather cover....

now its started just fine warm...but ill find out in the mornin if thats what was causin it....

thing ran great down the road too...pulls really good an everything

it wont start in the morning...its really ****ing me off now...starting fluid starts it then it dies again...

i got it started with starting fluid...its a bear to get it goin....hafta keep it about 2-3k rpm with choke open for about 2-3 min...

once bike is warm, and say it sits for 10 minutes... it fires right back up no problems
