DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is there an easy way to remove the airbox attached to the carbs on a GS1100E? Pull the carbs or sawsall? I'm putting K&N pods on. Got the box loose, but it looks like the bike was built around it.

you may have to remove the battery/battery holder. I dont believe that you should have to remove the carbs.

it may be a tight squeeze though once you get them out of the boots connecting them to the carbs , and also, they may only slide out in 1 direction *either left or right of course*

What kind of exaust are you useing? If you plan to use pods you will more than likely have to rejet you carbs with a stage 3 or atleast a stage 1 jet kit. You will get better power but you will have to do some carb work to complete the job. In orded to do the work you will have to remove the carbs and after that you should have no problems removeing the airbox.

Make sure that all clamps are LOOSE on both the engien side and the intake side and that you have removed the two bolts that hold the airbox in under the gas tank...very important. :)

Grab both sides of the carbs while seated on the bike (1 and 4) and first twist up then down...repeat several times... and work them out. I have found that the carbs want to come out from under the airbox or in other words the intake side of the carbs (airbox side), four holes) is above the carbs when they decide to come out.

If you are doing them at night then have a celebratory beer nearby for when they are out.....also disconnect the throttle and choke cables.. :)

You might want to go ahead and take you carbs out first just to make it easier. Once you remove the air box the carbs are very easy to reinstall.

Make sure you have allot of bandaids ready. But as stated earlier you will need to work on your carbs to get them working well. But there are allot of other people who did this do a search of this site and you should get almost any concern answered. If I were you try to keep the air box in tack you never know when you may want to put it back on again.

While I'm at it. One more reason to hate my airbox. I just finished installing a correct wiring harness on the bike. 35 out, not to bad for a while in the garage. Squeezing the harness and plugs through the opening above the box sux, but that's where it belongs. I got cold before I made all the connections. Once that's done, I start the airboxectomy. On the engine side of the carbs, which side of the boot should be unpluged? At the head or at the carb?

Thanks,

at the side of the carb. make sure they are fully loose, and once this is done, wiggle the airbox up and down, while pullling it out.
