    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OK, I'm slowly learning about my 750LX project.

The engine was well covered in grime due to what looked like a badly leaking can chain tensioner...

Sooooo, I filled a bucket with soapy water and used a long handled brush to clean off as much gunk as I could. Didn't use a hose to spray it down, but didn't worry much about water puddling on the backside of the engine either. When I was done, I used an air gun to blow off all the water I could.

Today I pulled off the starter motor cover & there wasn't a gasket on it. The cavity wasn't full of water but is was quite wet. Again, I use my air gun to dry it out.

Then I stuck my air gun into the hole on the backside of the stator cover (see picture) and when I blew it out, water came out of it !!

I have yet to pull a stator cover off yet & I'm not really sure what's behind there.

My concern is, do I have a case full of water around the stator & such??

Please tell me I have nothing to worry about - thanks,

That's supposed to be a drain hole. It's probably clogged, so open it up again and ur' good.
 
Hey Mike, I think that hole is there to allow the stator wires to feed out. There is a seperate cavity in the cover so I think there is no worry.

Maybe I should have looked at the picture, and possible read it more thorough, and .... :eek:

Thanks Brian, however, if you look at the pic I attached to my first thread you can see it's the hole (cavity) on the side of the case adjacent to the starter I was refering to...

I thinking I'm OK here, am I correct to assume that any water that gets into that hole will NOT get into any place it shouldn't (e.g., tranny, stator, etc...) ??

BTW, I did find out a lot about the "mystery hole" per your instructions :p

To make sure, run the engine a minute or two and then look at the oil for water.
If it looks like a milkshake you have a problem.
 
Better yet, just lean the right side of the bike against a wall and pull the stator cover off.

You dont even need to take it all the way off, if it comes loose and water runs out, then take it off and dry the stator

The starter cover does not have a gasket, it does have the mystery hole, so get out your pipe cleaners and get that ungunked. Water that runs into the cavity below the cam chain tensioner should run under the starter and out the mystery hole. Make sure that happens before you put it back together. You'll have to take the starter out, which probably isn't a bad idea anyway.
 
there is a rubber gromit moulded to the stator wires and for the most part these never leak oil so they generaly wont leak water in. they do everyonce in a while leak and oil comes up and out that hole.

when changing stators it is very important to make sure that wiring pass through gromit is sealed good.

There's no gasket on the starter cover, and a drain hole in the bottom of the cavity.
What worries me, is the next part about the hole on the stator side.
Like mentionned above, the stator cables are routed through a grommet making it watertight.

there is a hole at the top, for some odd reason Suzuki put the grommet inside where a rib crosses the cover and that leaves a cavity at the top where the hole is. it is possible for water to collect in there, though engine heat would cook it out.
