A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I bought a 83 GS1100 with a custom motor. It is a 1327cc with Andrews 4G intake and 3G exhaust, a Kerker Header and a welded crank. My problem is the cams have finally started to disintegrate. This engine was dyno'ed in the mid 80's with over 180 hp. Does anyone know of a way to find out what the spec's are on this set of cams. The company that made then originally only does Harleys now. This engine had over $9000.00 invested in it back in the mid 80's and I want to keep it as much intact as possible. How about this for a tough first question.

I would think that you could send them off to anyplace that does custom cam grinds and they could reproduce the profile for you.

Andrews Cams...

Thanks for the help... I got in touch with the tech support dept at Andrews and he is going to do a little research for me. I am trying to get the info without taking the cams out as they have slotted sprokets to degree the cams... and I am not handy with a degree wheel. I am hoping to get replacements and let a expert replace them.

According to my old 1982 Andrews catalog. Andrews cams had the same specs for both in. & ex. the G3's had .355 total lift & 258 deg. duration. The G4's had .380 total lift & 264 deg. duration. Total lift including lash, duration measured between points .030 off base circle.

Straight from the book. G1 bolt in - stock GS 750. G2 bolt in - stock GS 1100. G3 Street/drags modified GS 750 & GS 1100. G4 All out GS 750 & GS 1100

Actually, first, what is the compression ratio? If it is in the area of 10 to 1, I would use the Cam Motion G-21s. They are .380 lift & 244 duration at .050. If the motor has 12 to 1 or MORE compression, I would use the G-7s. They are .380 lift & 260 duration at .050. The more compression you have the more duration you need as it lowers the initial static cylinder pressure. the less compression you have the less duration you want to BUILD static cylinder pressure. If you have a STREET motor it is probably lower compression. If it has HIGHER compression, it is a RACE motor in a street bike! If you want to talk more in depth about this, call me at 714-356-7845 & i'll help you out. No matter what cams you decide to get, you WILL need to replace the rocker arms also. I can get you stock or hardweld rockers & Cam Motion or Web cams. Let me know if I can help. Ray.

It was ridden as a street bike for 2 years... Now that I have it I would like to get it to the strip. Last time I was on the track was with a turbo 1100 Yamaha SHAFT drive that ran 9.20's at 149 mph. That was 15 years ago...

The strange thing is there is a G4 intake and G3 exhaust... I did get to talk to RapidRay and I am getting a little more info as far as compression ratio so we can figure out what will work. Thanks again for getting the specs on those cams.

I checked the pistons and boy is that a tiny spot to look into. They do look flat not domed but I am going to look again tonight when I get home from work... don't think you would have any interest in the dyno sheets but if you do give me a fax # and I will send them over. The friend I bought the bike from spent $9000.00 1985 dollars on this motor and swingarm so I want to get it back together. Thanks again for the help so far... Curt
