    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anybody run 34mm RS Carbs on 850g?

I have a '79 850g.
Parts I already own:
'82 850gz head,
34mm Mikuni RS flatside carbs
Needed parts:
A push/pull throttle cable setup,
the carbs jetted correctly,
free flowing exhaust
Choke to work with these carbs
(Velocity stacks to work in the airbox)

What manifold will fit these carbs?
(I have the RS ones from the gsxr but are frankly smaller than the head orifice. Being rubber, I'm thinking I could port the openings with my die grinder and sand paper but it may not be super smooth like oem).

What stock airbox would work best? (I do not want to make this bike a sunny day pod bike). And will a K&N in a stock airbox flow enough air?

Why not just run pods? At little rain shouldn't hurt them enough to matter.

A little rain is what you get in CA. A little rain here in WASHington is what we get on a sunny day.
With torrential downpours around here, I just don't want to deal with a miserable running bike when trying to get home from a trip...

I know they are a size bigger than stock, but I own them already. I guess I want to figure out if it's feasible to make it run good with some mild mods and this carb?
Worse comes to worse, I'll have to purchase a set of CV's/mainfolds and go stock.

Those RS's sound like more expense and effort than they are worth considering we are talking about an 850 here and your insistence in using the airbox. I'd sell them and get some stock 32mm CV's...and pocket the change if you want an airbox.

I agree with Nessism, it is only a stock '79 850 after all.
Sell those carbs to someone with a pumped-up '80-up 1000 or larger engine.
If you want to put the larger '80-up 32CV carbs or the '80-up 34CV carbs from a 1000 or 1100 on it,
you already have the '80-up 850 cylinder head with the larger ports and intake manifolds that fit the larger carbs. ;)

I'm not running them on an 850 but I am running them on a 700 with pods. I've ridden in downpours here in Texas with the pods both with the stock CVs and my RS34s. I've never had any problem with water killing the engine or even causing a hiccup. At times I rode through over a foot of water on service roads trying to enter the freeway in driving rain, still no problems. If you already have the carbs use them, you won't regret it.
 
I'm with Billy on this one since you already have the carbs. Just find a Vance & Hines 4 into 1 & a set of pods for it & you can have it close to dead on tuning in a day. The manifolds from the 82 head you have should fit them no problem. Ray.

Ok. I like using stuff I have. For the record I did not get the 82 GS850 manifolds with the head.I need them.

So if I'm going pods, is there head work that would help bring these carbs closer to spec?
Velocity stacks?


The exhaust IS modified but is so loud it is obnoxious and it had to go. I was leaning towards vance & hines but a Ti akro would be my favorite:D

(Most of my vehicles are modded, lest you think otherwise:rolleyes:.With the GS I was thinking better performance (especially braking) but high on comfort and reliability)...

Sorry if this doesn't help - I don't know if it will or not. I have an '82 GS1100G that came stock with Mikuni 34mm CV carbs. I now have Mikuni RS36 carbs with pods on it and the RS36s fit perfectly into the 34CV carb boots. So for my bike all I did was buy new carb boots and all is well. I hope it is as simple for you.
 
You'll be able to squeeze the 34s into soft, new 32mm manifolds.
 
Are we talking manifold boots or carb to airbox boots?
