I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey everybody! I am working on a buddies GS400, which is a super sweet and fun bike! I dissembled a good amount of the bike to clean the carbs out, and get them freshened up a bit. I have worked on his bike before and everything was correct before I started working on it, but now as I am getting it all back together, a little black jumper wire fell off and landed on the ground, and now I am completely stumped as to where it goes. It is frustrating me so much and I am hoping somebody here knows where the hell this damn little wire goes. I looked up wiring diagrams but I just cant seem to figure out where it goes. The push start button worked a little weird before(you had to push really hard) before, but now it doesn't want to work at all, so I want to assume it has something to do with that. I tried kick starting a little bit but it isn't wanting to fire. I do have spark. I feel like this little wire is not grounding out a certain piece that is preventing it from working right. Please help!

It's about three inches long, with two circle "ground-wire" type connectors on each end.

I don't know 400s, but doesn't sound stock, sounds like something someone added.

Since you say the starter button no longer works, I wonder if this was to jumper out the clutch switch (if 400s have that).

I imagine it grounds the mounting plate where your starter solenoid is mounted. The electrical mounting plates are vibration damped with rubber grommets and have to be grounded for the solenoid to work. Just a guess but you can figure where it went by it's length where it will reach two bolts you removed. I have never seen your bike but that is traditionally how Suzuki set them up. The ground wires are usually black with a white stripe.

You have a multimeter?
How about a test probe light...?

Where are you located?

Did you take the bolt out that mounts the solenoid to the battery box ... ?

On other GSs there is a ground wire (black/white) there on the solenoid mounting bolt. THis wire has a ring terminal, but it comes from the wiring harness, not just a loose single 3 inch wire.

Like OldVet says, the solenoid and battery box needs to have a ground wire because it is not well mounted to the frame. On other GSes, the R/R ground wire is connected there also.
