A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

2 of the boots (#2 & #3) on my 850 are separating from the metal mount-plates...

I've RTVed them back in place, but don't trust this...

Where is a good source for replacement boots?

Has anyone had any luck RTVing boots?

Also, will radiator hose (or similar) work in leiu of factory boots???

About $25 each at http://www.BikeBandit.com

You might check http://www.ronayers.com or your local friendly dealer, but they're about the same price everywhere.

Make sure you get two rights and two lefts, and get the o-rings, too. Replace the stupid %$@#! phillips head screws with stainless allen head bolts, too.

Oh, and using RTV most definitely does NOT work for more than a few hours at a time. It's not resistant to gasoline.

Been there, tried that when I was poor and in college -- I carried a tube of black RTV on my old Kaw for a few months to spackle up the cracked intake boots when the previous layer of RTV cracked and dissolved.

Take care of this quickly, because excess air will cause your bike to run lean and overheat in many interesting, educational and expensive ways.

Mine were separating too. I thought they were made that way at first. Wishful thinking, huh?!

I bought them through Ron Ayers, $22 each (GS1000) On this bike all four were the same. It will really help if you can get your hands on a parts fiche CD. Mine shows how many of each are required on the bike, and the pictures are worth 1K words. And some on-line parts places give a discount if you provide the part number...

Did you hear? Replace those intake o-rings! Mine were WAY shot.

Went the JB-weld route, as the rubber parts were OK, apart from coming off the boots...

As long as the cracking doesn't go all the way through they're okay. Mine have been that way for years.
